I remember paying $80 per season for those clunky box sets from Total Action Universe in Canada. Pricing has certainly gotten better.

I just checked my profiler and I got X-files S1 CE from TAU for 74.78. S3,4,5 were bought from Deep Discount and Placentric for around 60 bucks. Yikes.

They got sold off many years ago and I picked up the complete series for 0.00 (was ordered for around 90 bucks, but an error on BN's part gave it to me for free.)

And now we have many that hesitate to buy the seasons for 6 bucks. Sheesh.

Re: foxconnect.com BF Sale

Picked up a few Bonds (non-Connery ones). I figured they will have a 50 off sale again on Black Friday and I'll just pick up the two Sean Connery Collection sets for under $20 and each bluray will be less than $5 each.

Also picked up:

S1 and S2 of Dollhouse on BD
The Life of PI BD
The Terminator Remastered BD

I want to pick up a few sets of the Simpsons. But does anyone know if Fox plans to release the earlier seasons in BD anytime soon? There's arlso the problem of the two simpsons sets I own collecting dust since I don't watch them that watch.

Re: foxconnect.com BF Sale

Front page of the site shows a coupon code for $30 off $100 - STOCKUP

Not sure I can find $100 of sale stuff. Mainly because that means navigating this crazy site and putting 17 $5.99 items in my cart.

Even though it is still listed on the site, the STOCKUP code has expired.

Dumb, isn't it? Right now, I'm halfway through S3, with S4 unopened on the shelf (a boxed slimpack set). I don't marathon these things, so it may be another year before I'm through S4 and staring at the other 5 seasons I ordered today while the BR set is sitting there at a ridiculously low price.
Yep, I ordered them. Screw it. Bird in the hand.

I'm a nut for 60's T.V. and some 70's and just wanted to point out that the entire Mary Tyler Moore Show for around $41.93 is a flippin' steal

Re: foxconnect.com BF Sale

I ordered the following:

Dollhouse Season 2.
Say Anything.
My Name is Earl Season 4.
Both $1.99 Futurama Blu-rays.
All three Family Guy Blu-rays.
All 11 Bonds which completes my collection. Between these, the two Connery collections, the Brosnan collection, and the Craig ones bought individually, I spent about $145 getting 23 Bonds on Blu.

Re: foxconnect.com BF Sale

I'll pass on the $5.99 X-Files DVD sets (these are missing the bonus discs) and wait to buy it on BD, but it'll take a few years to get to my price point. I can wait. We have the technology. We can rebuild him. Better, stronger, faster.

These were $150 MSRP when they hit the street. Now they're $6. You gotta laugh. I remember arguing with a guy who justified paying that by rationalizing the cost per hour vs. a concert or a ballgame. His arguement was perfectly rational, but today... sucks to be him. I wonder if he still thinks it was worth it.

I'm that guy. Everything drops in price over time, there's no escaping it. I also paid $100 for Criterion CAV Laser Discs back in the day. You can now get the Blu-ray for under $15 at B&N.

He's probably no longer with us due to the stress of rationalizing expensive DVDs.

Or the shock at seeing the drastic price drops.

Patience is a virtue.

(Seriously, most of us could tell tales about 'wasted' money on VHS, early DVD, "big"-screen tvs (as in 25"...woo hoo!), etc. Our first Sony Beta VCR was around $1200 back in the day. And blank tapes with no more than 2 hrs. running time were $12 each when bought in bulk.

Our current Panasonic 60" tv cost $400 less now than when we bought it. On the other hand, we've enjoyed it for two years. As long as you can afford something and still do your share to help others with your $, I don't think you have to live like a monk. And if you wait until the price drops lowest, you'll probably never buy anything (and some things that were once affordable will go out of print).

Re: foxconnect.com BF Sale

I've switched my buying habits the last three years to a very specific pattern.

I buy maybe 4-5 releases from mid-Jan to mid-Nov. Usually 1-2 catalog favorites and 3-4 new releases. One exception, the Criterion Sales at B&N. I buy 4+ each sale.

Then between mid-November and mid-January I purchase 30+ titles. Box set deals from UK. Big group buys from amazon.fr. Even with the international shipping and exchange rates, the sales drag down the average to crazy lows. Barely pay $5-6 average per movie.

I'm patient. $20 for Hobbit extended? Next year it will be $7.99-$9.99 I bet. I can wait.

That said... there's no reason to wait for title to drop below $4.99-$5.99 as seen in this sale. If there's anything you want in this sale... buy it. The only way it is going lower is in box sets or used. Oh, might be $3.99 on BF? I'll pay the dollar or two for no worries.

This will be my approach in 2014. I've spent entirely too much this year.

Good thoughts... amazes me how I used to pay 20$ plus for movies when I first got a dvd player so many years ago, I could walk into Circuit City and spend 100 on four or five movies and not think twice. $70-80 tv sets... no problem...

This past year I HAVE bought a lot, but its all been amazing deals, 95% of the titles Ive picked up have been in the $1-5 range thanks to U&S, pawn shops, and blockbuster closings. with the blockbusters all but gone I will have to wait on newer releases to lower in price. I HAD been trading 2 for one at the local moviestop and getting my new releases dirt cheap, but even they have recently upped that to trade 3 get one new release now.

Waiting on a good deal doesnt bother me though, I do need to severely cut back on my buying, my collection of blu's stands around 1750 right now

I still can't believe how much I used to pay for laserdiscs! And now I won't hardly pay more than $5 for a blu-ray!
