B&N 50% Criterion blu-ray sale November 5 through December 2

Since the B&N Criterion sale is starting soon thought I would get a new thread going. Probably will go live tonight online at around midnight eastern time and should begin at stores tomorrow. Sale is supposed to run from November 5 through December 2.

Here is the link to the B&N coupon thread for current coupons. Not much at the moment but hopefully some new coupons will come soon. Currently some members are getting a few 20% coupons in the mail.

Here is the direct link for Criterion blu-ray titles at B&N.com

All I need to know is if THIEF is avaliable for this. Also the Zatoichi set.

Everything else can die for right now.

Re: B&N 50% Criterion blu-ray sale November 5 through December 2

Often pre-orders due during the sale are usually included. Sometimes they've had mistakes right at the beginning of the sale that had all preorders included, but they've fixed those.

That said --

Zatoichi set -- likely included as it arrives during the sale. At a list price of $224.95, (27 discs, btw) this one would benefit from stacking all possible discounts on it. $112.48 on sale. Less 10% member discount, less 20% coupon, less $8 coupon. Could get this to $73 + tax.
Thief -- comes out in January. Likely not.

I think there is a good chance of some 25% or greater coupons showing up during the sale. Also using discounted gift cards is another alternative to save on top of any coupons or member discount.

Yeah, that Zatoichi set is one that could work out well with the "bonus" gift card, too. If I was picking this up, I would buy a B&N gift card for $75 first. Use that to buy this. This will net you a $10 bonus gift card down the road.

So I shouldn't expect It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World or Throne of Blood either? Both come out in January and neither shows up on the B&N web site.

I wouldn't expect them to be included. The November titles likely will be, since they'll be released during the sale.

Thanks, I'll try again next sale. I pretty much have everything else I'm interested in Criterion-wise, unless someone can convince me there is another new release I should not be without. Hint: It won't be that hard.

Any chance they'll extend it by a day so Nashville can be included?

That's the only thing I was planning to buy (thought it was released on the 2nd). Here's hoping.

Zatoichi will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine. Should I buy a membership now so I can hopefully get emailed some coupons?

If you've never had one before you're probably better off waiting to get a free 2 month membership with any purchase instead... then its an automatic 10% off. I don't know how often B&N sends out mailer coupons but if they just went out now for current members with a specified validity date range I couldn't imagine them sending out more before the sale ends.

Re: B&N 50% Criterion blu-ray sale November 5 through December 2

I have had the membership in the past, but don't have it currently. They do mention a bunch of coupons upon purchase, although who knows if any of them will be applicable to the Blu-rays.

Edit: Nevermind, I guess I would have to do a renewal for that, and that isn't offering coupons. Also, it looks like I'd have to go in-store to get most of the benefit. And between school and work, it's much more convenient for me to order online. I guess I'll buy the egift card for $75 to get the bonus $10 (which I'll save for the next Criterion sale), then use the non-member 20% coupon on the Zatoichi set.

This sale seems quiet this time. There's usually a lot more pre-sale buzz around these things.

Anyway, the link is up on the Movies & TV page, but only a few titles are live so far. The rest should propagate during the next few hours.

There's also the usual 50% Off Select Art House Films as well. Happy hunting.

Is that the one that's only for "new" members, or is there a general coupon..?

It is supposed to be for people who bought their membership between August 26 and November 30. I have never encountered any problems using these coupons even if I didn't buy my membership during that specific timeframe.

Right now there are only 14 titles discounted on Blu-ray via that B&N sale. Zatoichi being one of them - that one is at $112.

Re: B&N 50% Criterion blu-ray sale November 5 through December 2

Except you can't use coupons online or receive the 10% member discount. The online "sale" is strictly 50% off your Criterions. If you want to make this a real deal, you have to venture to a BN, hope they still have media and that your clerk wants to help you. Because, as always, their willingness to apply the coupons on top of the sale is YMMV.

Of my nearby Barnes and Nobles, only one carries media... and that one doesn't even stock Blu-rays. Which is infuriating. I can't understand the logic there.

Re: B&N 50% Criterion blu-ray sale November 5 through December 2

I had no problems using the $5/50 (twice) and $8/40 coupons in store. Struck up a nice conversation about movies with the guy working the movie/music section while I was browsing and he was more than happy to ring the 3 transactions up separately with the coupons on top of the member discount.

Transaction 1
Seven Samurai - $24.99 (after 50%) -$2.50 (10% member discount) -$8 ($8 off $40 item coup) = 15.36 after tax

Transaction 2
Eyes W/Out A Face - $19.99
Summer W/ Monika - $19.99
Amarcord - $19.99
-$6 (10% member discount) -$5 ($5 off $50 purchase coup) -$40 gift card = $11.91 after tax

Transaction 3
La Notte - $19.99
Kagemusha - $19.99
Repo Man - $19.99
-$6 (10% member Discount) -$5 ($5 off $50 purchase coup) = $51.91 after tax

Here's a deal that was posted in the coupon thread that might not last long. Looks like B&N has the prices reversed for the DVD and blu-ray versions for the 3 Films By Roberto Rossellini. If you use coupon code RMN15BN it will save you an extra $6 off the price.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll get used too. I've had mixed success with coupons and I find the later the sale goes the less success I have, at least at my local stores. It would have been an extra $10 saved across the 2 big transactions which would have been great but I may not have had the luck of getting a cool cashier.

Plus, I had the money this week and who knows what life would have brought up between now and then
