I was just at Walmart. They do NOT appear to have an exclusive BD, the only exclusive appeared to be a two-disc DVD version. They even had a display out, and the display specifically mentioned the exclusive DVD, but nothing about an exclusive BD.
So I guess their exclusive is just a slimmed-down, cheaper version of the DVD. It specifically mentioned it had the features "The Company of Thorin" and "Durin's Folk: Creating the Dwarves", meaning I guess those are the only special features on it, since they are both part of the regular extended edition's features.
Oh, and the BD was 19.96, and their exclusive DVD was 17.96. Sorry, I didn't notice the price of the 3D.

It's just the standard version. I did the same thing yesterday and ended up not getting it. I even went on the shelf to check and they were all the same. Now there was a DVD version that had a Wal Mart exclusive sticker on it, but I couldn't remember what it was for. Nothing major though. But if you are looking for just the 2D version, that's still a good price, just don't expect any exclusives.

I am only interested in the 2D version but wanted to make sure I got all the regular extras. I guess it just feels a little light compared to the LOTR EE extras.

Seems interesting that Best Buy is selling an exclusive that removes actual good, useful features in favor of a useless gimmick feature.

Nobody has exclusive or reduced features when it comes to the 2D. The cheapest place to get the 2D is Walmart, it's 19.96 instore and online.
For the 3D, the only issue is with the Best Buy exclusive which does not feature the film in 2D and is also missing the commentary.

does the amazon 2d normal 3disc come with a slip case.
my walmart $19. 96 has a normal 3 disc clam shell case with a slipcover similar to the LotR cases.
I'm thinking thats the exclusive...
