JAMES DEAN UCE About $30 Shipped Amazon UK

Don't know if anyone is still reading this forum at DVDTalk, but just in case, Amazon UK has a pre-order price for the upcoming JAMES DEAN ULTIMATE COLLECTION for about $30 shipped. And it's Region Free. On mobile, so can't post the link.

Anyone here making custom artwork for these three films? I like the price, but not the fact that they aren't individually cased.

This was posted by someone, just FYI:

It comes with 6 discs instead of 7 like the US version. (The UK seems to be missing the George Stevens documentary DVD)

If it is "George Stevens: A Filmmaker's Journey" that is missing, you could always order that DVD separately, if you want it.

Yeah, it's pretty cheap ($4.99 at Amazon). Columbia House cleared out them a few years back for about 99 cents.

Also seems to be missing the 40 page hardcover book that comes with the US set.

Probably a softcover reduced-sized book, but I'm sure it's still in there.

Price for the UK set has gone down from about 21 pounds to 18.07 pounds before removal of VAT plus shipping. Price guarantee applies for those who already ordered. Comes out to be 18.14 pounds shipped. US price depends on exchange rate at time of shipping.

The pic shown on the link shows what appears to be a stitched-in hardcover.

about $27.90per today's conversion. why the hell are US releases so much more expensive ?

EDIT: Placed the pre-order. Warner better have done good restoration work on this. The Special Edition DVD's were pretty neatly done and I don't really see the need for an upgrade other than it being affordable. Any links to reviews on the restoration quality of this set ? TIA

I had totally forgotten about this item. I pre-ordered it after seeing the thread here.
It arrived today. Box is crushed like someone sat on it. Not too pretty with creases all over, but not damaged to the point I'd want to go through the hassle of an international return

Nope, that's in there. Also comes with UV codes, which was a nice surprise.

Mine shipped Oct 27th and still waiting for it to arrive. Hopefully I get it in good shape.

There are reviews and screen shots at DVDBeaver for Giant and Rebel Without a Cause.

I may be drunk but some of those SD/DVD images seem to trump the BD images :-)

UK packaging is reviewed very poorly. Also found that the 3 SD/DVDs included are NOT region free but R2....what the %@#$(^#

Warner rarely makes their DVDs region-free.

The item's description on the packing label is "James Dean - Ultimate Collector's Edition [Blu-ray][1955][Region Free]". If the item really isn't region free, I think I should send it back unopened, crushed packaging and all. That's disappointing.

The blu rays are region free. The DVDs included in the set are apparently not. For those interested Costco has the US set for $69.99 and $58.69 at the WBshop using $10 coupon code WBAFSAVE10

Re: JAMES DEAN UCE About $30 Shipped Amazon UK

If you purchase an item that's actually designated "Region Free" and then it's NOT region free, that's a pretty big oversight in my book. I'm pretty upset since I don't have a region free DVD player.

Re: JAMES DEAN UCE About $30 Shipped Amazon UK

My set came creased, but it's too much of a hassle to send back and try again. I just chalk it up to poor packaging. Nothing on the inside was damaged. For the price I can live with it.

Re: JAMES DEAN UCE About $30 Shipped Amazon UK

Are the DVDS in this set any different from the DVDs from the previous box set?

Laser Movies 11-05-13 04:26 PM

Re: JAMES DEAN UCE About $30 Shipped Amazon UK

Sad to learn the DVDs are not region free. I just received my package for the set this afternoon from Amazon.uk, but have not opened it yet. Debating whether to keep it or send it back now. I've also had a bad year with my DVD players breaking. Had 2 region free players bite the dust along with my PS3 a few weeks ago, so I have nothing to play the DVDs on. I already own Giant and East of Eden on DVD, but sold Rebel Without a Cause recently. If the extras are the same I could keep my current DVDs for them. Maybe I need to get a new region free player. I picked up a new Sony blu-ray player since I needed something now but it's not region free.

Re: JAMES DEAN UCE About $30 Shipped Amazon UK

Knowing Amazon, they will take it back. But this whole 'deal' already has a bad taste to it - haven't had anyone on THIS forum chip in yet about the BD quality but those reviews from Amazon.uk are less than happy with the HD quality as well. With that HD quality issue, bad packaging and a misrepresentation of the region free feature, I am already writing this purchase off as a lesson learned. Perhaps the print quality on that book is good enough to own a $30 James Dean book :-)
