That scene was in the old VHS release.

The TV edit is included in this set as a bonus.

Picked up Devil's Backbone, Badlands, and Pina for $45.37 before taxes. Checkout lady used both $8 and $5 coupons. That, along with my membership discount, made this a very good purchase.

I got a couple of member coupons in the mail today - two for 20% off any one item. I tried using them online and they cannot be used on the CC Blu-rays.

Wow, I didn't know about that scene. I own the 2006 DVD release of the movie, as well, and that scene wasn't in that version either. Can't even remember the last time I watched the VHS version (pre-2001, I bet). I did pick up the Criterion version and really enjoyed watching it on Blu. The dialogue is BEYOND classic!

On second thought, maybe the Lorna Doones scene was from the edited for TV version that I recorded onto VHS.

I'm getting old. My memory fails me sometimes.

Good Luck with that. I only get grief when I try using those 20% off coupons - hit rate has been pretty abysmal. not gonna renew my membership from next yr

Re: B&N 50% off Criterion blu-ray sale begins July 9th

Why is B&N trying to fuck me on this order?

Ordered Something Wild and Devil's Backbone on July 19th.

Something Wild shipped on the 23rd. Received an e-mail that Devil's Backbone release date was delayed.

Devil's Backbone now shows an expected ship date of Jul 23rd??

Received an e-mail this morning indicating further delay, and that I have to confirm that I want the order kept open within 24 hours, or it will be cancelled. Go to order status and click on the "I still want this" link, and it just goes back to the order status page which indicates that the order needs my attention.

Of course, the Devil's Backbone page is showing "Usually ships within 24 hours" which usually means it's in stock.

I would just re-order it, but then shipping will cost me $8 instead of 4.

Sigh...

I'd feel better if the "I still want this" link would work. I've tried calling them in the past and could never get an answer. Looks like they have a live chat option now. I'll try that when it's available.

It works...it just doesn't tell you it works.

It may have, but the order status didn't change, so I used Live Chat and was able to get it updated that way. It now shows an expected shipping date of Aug 22nd, but also still shows "ships within 24 hours" on the product page.

Re: B&N 50% off Criterion blu-ray sale begins July 9th

Finally got a chance to go to my local store for this sale. I didn't realize the 'Art House' sale that ran alongside this sale ended on Monday.

Luckily, the stickered prices were honored even though the associate seemed less than happy to do it.

Picked up:

The Devil's Backbone: $19.99
Miami Connection: $14.99
Wake In Fright: $14.99

I had the same exact problem with The Devil's Backbone. (They wouldn't ship Babette's Feast or Lord of the Flies either, although I didn't get the undying "I want to keep this" link for either of those.)

On Monday, I said "screw it", cancelled those, and bought 'em at a B&M instead.

Yeah, I would've done the same if I was in the U.S. Yesterday the availability changed to 1-2 weeks, but today is showing as 24 hours again.

Made my second and final trip to a store for this sale. Picked up four more using the latest round of 15% coupons and a 20% coupon. Also was allowed to stack a $5 off $50 coupon on the purchase for a little extra savings.

Picked up the following on blu.

Ice Storm
Lord of the Flies
Safety Last
Things to Come

I have some spare 15% coupons if anyone needs one.

Note: Coupons are not working with the Criterion sale online.

I am contemplating getting Sansho the Bailiff on BluRay, but I have the DVD and am wondering if the complete book is included with the Blu that comes with the DVD. If anyone has the Blu and knows?

Whether or not it's complete, I couldn't say, but the book that comes with the Blu-ray release of Sansho the Bailiff is thick enough that Criterion had to design the packaging around it.

Well, the computer didn't want to accept our emailed unique 20% off coupon today after I was able to use my unique 15% off yesterday. Fortunately, the cashier gave me the 20% off despite the system not allowing it and after reading the coupon over. It looks like they might have deactivated our ability to use those coupons at a B&M. Anyone else? Also, the movie I picked up was Babette's Feast and yesterday I picked up The Moment of Truth.

In a few scattered trips I've added:

Amarcord
Black Moon
Branded to Kill
The Double Life of Veronique
Down By Law
Fish Bowl
High & Low
Howard's End
The Ice Storm
Life is Sweet
Revanche
Rosemary's Baby
Tokyo Drifter

Now waiting on Criterion's September sale...

Sadly, I experienced the same when I tried to use the unique 15% off coupons printed from email. The CSR scanned the coupon and there was a loud beep. Eventually, after a short wait and a talk with the manager she allowed me the discounts (used three of those 15% off coupons). Since the other (and more coupon friendly) BN in my state is shutting down in the next six months, it's going to real difficult to use coupons on any BN Criterion sale in the future.

Anyway picked up:

Tokyo Drifter
The Ice Storm
Things to Come

Price matched Devil's Backbone at Fry's in Irving Texas. They have a decent Criterion selection.
