Re: Frys Anniversary Sale 5/17-5/23: Box Sets $19.99 B&M and Online

Thanks to LaidBackLarkin and SweetBabyJames for this one. I was able to take advantage of the BestBuy.com price match and picked up quite a bit of great stuff:

$4.99 Big ($9.99 at BB)
$9.00 Friday / Menace II Society / Set It Off ($19.99 at BB)
$9.00 The Departed / Goodfellas / The Aviator ($19.99 at BB)
$19.99 The Godfather Collection ($49.99 at BB)
$42.98
+ tax
$46.32 for 10 films at $4.63 per film, plus the Godfather bonus disc

I'm especially excited to pick up The Godfather Collection at that price because I missed out on the Amazon DOTD a few months back and I haven't owned a copy since the VHS big ol' two-tapes-per-film version. Also glad to get The Departed on Blu-ray as the DVD looks dismal and I really, really like Menace II Society so an upgrade on Blu-ray is quite welcome!

Thank you!

Just curious (as I live in CT), which Best Buy did you use as a few around me are not as nice in pricematching?

As long as it's in stock on Frys.com, you shouldn't have a problem at any store. I haven't seen anyone post the link to BB's updated policy, so here it is. If you're polite and they still give you trouble, I'd just call 888-BestBuy and ask for help. I had an issue with U&S a year or so back, called their customer service line while walking to my car and they told me to go back in the store and it'd be taken care of. They called the customer service desk while I was going back in and that was that.

Maybe I'll bite on Prometheus 3D and sell the 3D disc to recoup my costs.

Yes, theoretically if it's in stock at Frys.com or in store, they shouldn't reject the PM. However, I've had that happen several times because sometimes Fry's lists wrong UPCs on the product page which often do not match the actual product's UPCs. At my stores most BB employees look for any excuse to reject a PM, so they will check UPCs too. I tell them Frys.com has the wrong UPC info, but they tell me that Fry's has their own exclusive editions which are different than the normal retail editions that BB sells. Right... when's the last time any of us bought the Fry's Exclusive BD Edition of anything? The only time it would be legitimate is if BB has their own Exclusive Edition, but in virtually every case where I've been rejected based on UPCs they were the regular non-exclusive retail editions. Of course I've learned I can argue forever with a BB employee and never win, so I usually end it with "I know you're wrong, but there's no point in arguing, so I'll just get it at Fry's or PM at Target". Though I've only called the toll free number to complain a few times (because I learned it's usually pointless... it's much easier just to bash BB in my long posts :-) ), not once did they ever call the store to make them fix it. Normally they told me they support whatever the manager or supervisor said even if it's different than corporate policy. When I've contacted the corporate office, not once did they do anything to the local store or even contact them. However, I have gotten a few decent GCs after calling corporate for my trouble.

Re: Frys Anniversary Sale 5/17-5/23: Box Sets $19.99 B&M and Online

All of this talk about price matching with Best Buy made me remember a $25 reward certificate I had there. So I called to price match the LAWRENCE OF ARABIA Box and at first she said no because the Fry's listing was for a 4 disc set and the Best Buy listing said it was only 3 discs. I told her that I thought the Best Buy listing was in error as I didn't believe there was ever any 3 disc set released. I could hear her hitting the keyboard and after a few seconds she came back and said, "Ok, no problem." So I hope I'm right and it is indeed the 4 disc box.

I called Fry's to cancel my backorder without any issues. So it worked out great and cost me the $25 certificate and out of pocket $5.44.

So how does Frys charge? Right away or once they ship an item from your order? Because I have a cart of 6 items and only one is in stock right now. Everything else is on back order.

Great deals. Like Christmas in May. Could only get a few titles, though. Dang it. But much better than waiting for Netflix to get off their lazy asses and actually put quality content online.

When it ships. I ordered a couple of movies from them on April 7th, the items were shipped on the 8th, and the charges were posted to my account the 8th and cleared on the 10th.

Life of Pi is now showing as backordered in the cart now. I was just able to order it.

I canceled my LOA order and they sent me a "No Longer Available" E mail saying they are sold out and don't expect anymore copies of this item in stock. ??? Is this how they handle it when you call and cancel an order?

Yeah, Frys is terrible. I ordered 12 blu rays durings this sale and they were all back ordered. Then I randomly get an email saying that they cancelled my order. Next time I'll buy from someplace else.

always a crapshoot from Frys if you don't order within the first few hours of a sale. If they say backordered, it means 'SOL'. But on a +ve note, it does help you with buyer's remorse

Really? Wow. I ordered 3 titles on the 2nd day of the sale, all backordered, and I got a shipping notice over the weekend. But they did cancel my GoT S2 on me, after keeping the order "backordered" for 2 months.

EDIT: Received today. One title has a broken case (pieces floating around) but otherwise got everything I ordered, including the Hangover movie cash on The Campaign.

Got my Best Buy price matched LOA today and all looks good. It was really well packed. Now to wait for a cold winter night to watch it as it's too hot to watch a desert movie now.

All my back ordered stuff shipped yesterday. Nothing cancelled. What was odd was yesterday the individual orders that had been marked Partially Backordered were marked Authorization Declined. I called Fry's and they said my items would ship and surprisingly they did.
