Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
I picked up Born to Be Wild 3D today. Are there any other cheap 3D titles that I should pick up? I also grabbed Harold & Kumar 3D and Final Destination 5 3D the other day.

Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
Ugh. Just had a Manzana experience with Beast Buy. The store close to my work didn't have Ben-Hur, so I went to one on my way home where I knew they had it from shopping a day or two ago. It's about 25-30 minutes from home and I was trying to be home by 8 pm for the Fringe finale. (I don't have cable/DVR.)
I walk in at 7:20 pm and whip through the video department in a few minutes, picking up When Harry Met Sally, Heavy Metal, Out of Sight, and Ben-Hur. Go to customer service and wait a couple of minutes for someone to acknowledge me; it's about 7:25. I hand the guy in a Geek Squad polo the crappy Dollar Tree DVDs and he turns and walks off like he's got to ask about them. I'd forgotten to unwrap them, but he didn't say anything, he just left. And stayed gone. And gone. Tick...tick......tick.............tick........WTF? After 7 minutes waiting, I'm into my travel window and am starting to worry. I go and find another clerk to hunt down the first clown and a minute later, some other tool comes out and give me the coupon and receipt. Unlike the other night, he made no move to ring up the BDs I had, instead directing me to the one open register where I had to wait for the door security guard to buy his candy bars before I could cash out. Turns out When Harry... was already on sale, so I left that for next week and had to remind the cashier to give me back the upgrade receipt. Because she'd used all four initially, she just fished out out without thinking to cross off the three I'd actually used, so I think I'll have four more uses. Thanks to light traffic and an ability to treat speed limit signs as amusing suggestions, I managed to get home and in front of the tube with a whole minute to spare. Whew! It never should've been so tight. This is the first time I've had a hassle or inconvenience with an U&S transaction, but this is the first (nd last) time I'd tried to do it at the Dearborn store. Screw 'em! |

I am considering using an $5 upgrade-and-save coupon for Downton Abbey Season 3 which comes out January 29th. It all depends on what BestBuy lists as the price before coupon.

Round 2:
Cosmopolis Excision $10.xx out the door after trading 2 dvds and $10 in RZ certificates |
Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
Do all of the Warner BD triple packs (the $9.99 ones before coupon) such as Training Day/John Q/Pelican Brief, 16 Blocks/Last Boy Scout/Last Man Standing, and Lost Boys 1-3) contain the same discs as the separate retail BD releases with all of the same extras/features?
Also, I ordered The Lovely Bones BD SKU 9846571 online whose in store shelf tag said it was the 2 disc SE, and I got the 1 disc. Does anyone know if SKU 1181916 is in fact the 2 disc version online in spite of what it says? Or are the only people who got the 2 disc SE the few who were lucky enough to get it on the first day of the U&S in the store? |

Speaking of "recycling" -- whenever I've exchanged one of my old DVDs in to Best Buy, I have always put them in a new "eco" case that I have taken off of one of my newer DVDs that I want to keep, and replaced that case with the older non-eco case.
No way I'm going to let those good sturdy, older cases go to waste. I do this too. Words cannot express how I despise those eco-cases. What galls me most is how, if You're not careful when grabbing one, You can easily crease the artwork under the cutout area. This because artwork nowadays is on paper about as thick as Charmin. Am I the only one who remembers the early days of DVD when You would get a sturdy keepcase, thick paper artwork, AND usually an insert booklet?! Nowadays the studios spare no amount of brainpower to continually dream up new ways to cut costs and screw the consumers. This, of course, only pertains to U.S. sold merchandise. And, while I'm on my soapbox... It also galls me that, despite all the cut corners, we do generally get those useless & tossable slipcases. Talk about wasted trees. Do these studios not recall the CD longbox travesty of the 80's? OK rant over. Now - re: U&S - I got 2 coupons this week. Have no idea what I'll use them on. Considering both 50/50 and Cosmopolis. Hoping for some decent new product on the shelves this week to also grab my eye... |
Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
Sherlock Holmes (Steelbook)
Shawshank Redemption (Steelbook) King Kong The Town (Extended Cut with a slip - hadn't seen that before) North By Northwest 'N by NW' rang up $14.99. PMed to Online for $9.99. Got the BS that U&S won't apply if PMed. Called Mgr who did a price override. $17.18 after tax and $10 cell phone recycle discount (found a couple of old cellphones in my garage) Also got a HP 17.3" laptop for $315 (they couldn't find the open box of the advertised $349 one, so gave me the higher upgrade model open box for the same price) now setting up Windows 8 on it....Great day at BB today !!! |

Did pretty well tonight. Picked up Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Shawshank Redemption Steelbook, Source Code, Lovely Bones & Re-animator all for $4.99 a piece after coupon.

Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
I finally got my first paycheck at the new job yesterday. Yay! So, I finally allowed myself to make a Best Buy stop. I traded in 5 DVDs and bought National Lampoon's Animal House, Blues Brothers, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Midnight in Paris, and Barbarella. Each one was $4.99 after coupon. Nice.
On an aside, it has been about a year since I have really shopped at Best Buy. When did they combine Customer Service with Geek Squad? Or was this just at my store? It used to be Geek Squad and then a separate Customer Service/Order Pickup area. Now it was an order pickup area and then Geek Squad/Customer Service. I don't get combining people who have a simple exchange or U&S transaction with people trying to get help with broken electronics. The line was crazy long and moved unbelievably slow. It took at least 20 minutes for me to get to be able to turn in my DVDs and get the coupons. Meanwhile, the order pickup area was basically deserted. Even worse, once I bought my Blu-rays, I got to the car and realized one was damaged on the back cover. I had to wait another 30 minutes just to swap the disc. Ugh. I just found that store change to be very peculiar. |
Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
As as I know, CS and Geek Squad have always been next to each other. When it's slow, they usually have only 1 line to service both areas. That's been my experience at least.

Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
My store is now the same as Boc described his.
Pickups and CS were one side and computer stuff on the other. Now pickups are deserted and everything else is over on the other side of the desk and have long lines or Long waits for a rep all the time. |
Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
Finally located the TMNT Triple pack after at a 3rd Best Buy, so I was able to locate and purchase everything I wanted so far this week.

Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
I hate the new change at CS. I had to wait 30-45 minutes yesterday as there were people w/ issues with their electronics going on at two different registers. Half of that time I had a lady standing behind me huffing and puffing cuz she definitely did not feel like standing in line.
The "new" in-store pick up area was empty the entire time. Wish they would allow the U&S trade-ins to go to that area since it is pretty quick and painless. Went back in and picked up my final 3-pack tonight(300/Troy/Alexander) using my hd dvd copy of Troy as trade-in material. Picked up a couple more $9.99(pre-coupon) titles while I was in there(Romeo + Juliet, cheap steels). |
Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
Got another 3 today (up to 17 now). This one may be a good suggestion for others:
Double feature of Spy Kids 3-D and Sharkboy and Lava Girl 3D for $9.99 AC. 5 bucks each for Blu-ray 3D? SOLD! Also got the Scorsese 3-pack and Re-Animator. I'm running out of things to get. I may reach 20, but I doubt I'll pass it... |
Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
I had to wait about 15 minutes to trade in one DVD.
I picked up Zombieland for $5. I wanted to get the Austin Powers 3-pack, too, but they didn't have it. |
Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
I really didn't want to participate in this, but I found 5 DVDs that were duplicates for BDs I already had, so I decided to trade them in. I guess they need time to restock, but my local Best Buy didn't have crap tonight. The Warner 3 movie collection display was long gone.
I did find something pretty decent. They had the Shout Factory Jackie Chan 2 movie collection with Crime Story and The Protector. Its going for about 17 something at Amazon. Best Buy was selling it for $15.99. So I ended up getting it for $10.99 plus tax. |

The steelbooks (and Jaws) were all return/rebuys from November and most of the triple packs will enable me to sell at least 1 sealed one from my collection to recoup the cost. Only picked up A-Team today (which I had bought last week for a return/rebuy). Many of the 3Ds will enable me to sell / return stuff at BBY from BF (hint Journey 2). |

Re: Upgrade and Save coming back! 1/13 - 2/2
Reading that the triple feature price might go back up convinced me to run out tonight to do some trades. Ended up with everything I wanted; the Superman pack, the Ninja Turtles pack, along with A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas, Source Code, and couldn't really figure out what to get for my last movie so I just went and picked up the Raid.
That should hold me over for a bit. I hope. |

The disks in these sets are, to my knowledge, identical to the individual releases. However, they don't include any second "bonus" discs that might have come with the individual releases. Offhand, the only one I can of think that would fall in this category would be the Superman triple feature, which doesn't have the second disc for "Superman Returns" or the theatrical cuts of Superman and Superman II from the boxed set. |
