Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I believe Amazon decides how many of an item they want to sell at the Deal of the Day price. This could be due to the arrangement Amazon has with the manufacturer. Once that number is reached they discontinue the sale price. I don't think it is limited to stock on hand. I think I have seen items that were still in stock but no longer on sale even though it wasn't the end of the day.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I'm quite sure that's exactly how it has worked for some time now. Problem is, you never know the quantity and if it will take an hour to sell out or most of the day. It would be cool if they had some kind of running tally, similar to lightning deals, but I don't think it will ever happen.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Will wait for a good price on the Hunger Games bluray box set or for the individual movies to sell for $6 or less just like the Twilight movies did on Black Friday. Granted Hunger Games didn't flop with a bad ending for the series as well as the relationship between its leading actors like Twilight did, but $5 or $6 might not be out of the realm of possibility for each of the individual Hunger Games movies maybe a year or two from now.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Has anyone had issues with them not shipping preorder Blu's out until days and sometimes a week after release day?
I am starting to feel like I should never preorder from Amazon again. |

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Right, but Target and Best Buy have never guaranteed delivery by release day. That was one of Amazon's big things.
|
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I almost always get Target pre-orders on the Thursday or Friday of release week. GoT last week was the first time I actually received anything on release day, and I think that was because it was shipped UPS instead of USPS.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Amazon has become like the old phone co monopolies, "We don't care, we don't have to". That's what happens when there is little competition in a capitalist system. Capitalism requires competition to work as it's supposed to.

With quick price drops these days, there's less and less incentive to pre-order non-Disney titles anyway. |

I haven't kept close track, but of the ones I've preordered, I think I've maybe not gotten it release day a handful of times.

FTR - Most of my pre-orders are Disney related titles or exclusives. Otherwise, I also wait for price drops.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Wow, you're right. About $3 cheaper. Last time I saw these, they were around $15+
By the way, Kino's Film Noir 5-Film Set is down to $42.99. Very tempting. |
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (Deluxe Edition) is $11.99. 'Temporarily Out of Stock' but it let me order for that price. Not sure how that price compares to other places.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I got it at BB last week for that price. They sent me a $5 cert and I had $5 from shopkick . Plus it had $8 in movie cash on it.

Chungking Express (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]
Currently available for ~$28. If you're a Criterion fan, you'll be pissing your pants right now. Get it while it's still available. I placed my order over a week ago at $40, and it actually dropped! Worst case scenario...your order will be canceled. Best case scenario? Well... |
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
And considering it's been out of print for a while, it's quite a catch at that price. Already have it, but if I didn't have it, I'd grab it now.
|
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Didn't know these were going for so much. I still have a sealed Criterion Collection Chungking Express sealed Blu-ray sitting on the shelf.

At least one person appears to have gotten a shipping notice, but ?? a tracking number and it hasn';t arrived yet. It will be interesting to see if this is a DVD, a totally unrelated item with the wrong bar code, the non Criterion Chunking item, or if Amazon found a box of OOP Bluray items hiding in the corner of the warehouse or the basement of a shipping clerk.
The last 2 OOP or extremely limited quantities items I've ordered from Amazon that were delivered have both been incorrect UPCs No wonder it went OOP. Amazon had half the stock sitting somewhere in a warehouse...probably in the same section as Chinese Noodles and Egg Foo Young mixes. |
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Chungking Express (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray] is now "delayed" per Amazon. April 22 and June 30, are the new expected delivery dates. Weird. I guess they don't have these in stock. Which does not look good, unless they bought a batch from another entity.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I ordered it a few days ago and it's showing "Not yet shipped, Arriving April 13-15" in my order status. Fingers crossed.

I am only holding onto a sliver of hope, afterall, many amazon third party sellers wanted stupid crazy money for My Big Fat Greek Wedding when it was unavailable to purchase, but when it came back down in price I ordered and while it has yet to ship, the order was not cancelled. Not quite an apples to apples comparison due to the known demand for Chungking Express, but still. |

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Why do they have two different skus for Jaws 3?
I bought Jaws 2 & 3 (for the 3D) but just can't pull the trigger on Jaws 4. I saw it in the theater when it came out but have hardly any memory of it. And the reviews are so bad that I just don't know if it is worth the 10 bucks to check it out again. |
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I preordered the Iron Giant Signature. Looking forward to that, great price.
