Damn disposable income and rationalization. 56 Criterions later I hope this is my last big purchase this year. Probably not though.

Incidentally, what's with BB listing foreign movies by their foreign titles? How many people would think to search for these Criterions in other languages? I searched under THREE OUTLAW SAMURAI and no results. I had to use the original Japanese title. ???

Still trying to exercise restraint...ordered Umberto D.

Keep telling myself I will only buy again if Island of Lost Souls hits $17.99 on Amazon...then I will need to be done for the year.

Not to be an enabler, but Island of Lost Souls is awesome. You should not pass it up.

I couldn't resist this sale either. I pre-ordered Brazil and got The 39 Steps to replace my aged DVD.

Yeah, but the B2G1 coinciding with the 50% off sale last July was awesome! I weakened and pre-ordered Brazil to replace the non-anamorphic DVD set. I'm done with sales for the year.

Yeah, I only set foot in a store once during that sale. Ordered just about everything I was after during that window of overlap on the sales.

About an hour after I submitted the Best Buy price to Amazon, they matched it, so maybe now I will stop with Island of Lost Souls being my final Criterion purchase during this round of sales. It has been a fun and expensive Black Friday-Cyber Monday

Re: Criterion sale at bestbuy.com & amazon

Oh fuck me, really? Of course I ordered a couple Criterion blu's from B&N that are now cheaper on Amazon (The Game and Being John Malkovich). Tempted to get Traffic and The Thin Red Line, but my spending has been out of control the last 5 days. I'll hold off.

I just requested a pricematch for Yi Yi no more than ten minutes ago and they have already dropped it to $20.00 from almost $30...

Is there no love for Topsy-Turvy? Looks like the only Criterion blu that Amazon hasn't price-matched yet....--Peter

Great movie. I was a bit disappointed with Criterion's transfer. MOC told me in an email that they used the same one, & that it's the best in existence.

I had been going back and forth between the two but settled on the Criterion for playability (it seems that both of my blu-ray players are region free thanks to an easy hack for the DMP-BDT210).

Re: Criterion sale at bestbuy.com & amazon

If you purchased a bunch of Criterions during this 'sale' at Amazon don't check your gold box or you may find yourself purchasing another! The Game was $17.09 and it's been on my 'kind of want it' list since it was released so...

I thought it looked very good myself. This is one of the Paramount titles that Universal bought in the 1950s, made a haphazard acetate copy of the nitrate original, and junked the nitrate. I believe the transfer comes from a nitrate print from UCLA and the sound is from a 16mm collector print. I was disappointed in the blooming whites at some points in the film, thinking it was deterioration or damage, but as I looked more closely I think there were some type of filters used to give Moreau's white suit a glowing look. To me, it looks on par with lots of movies from the early 1930s, not spectacular looking but still quite good.

Anyone with any info when the Best Buy sale will end? I'm headed out there Thursday, was hoping I can pick a couple things up then.

I had some time today so I submitted some price matches to Amazon - Topsy-Turvy is now $17.99. Look for some other price drops (should be Rules of the Game, Fat Girl, and two or three others). --Peter

Are you going to collect them all? Do you have a lot of the SD Criterions too?

Re: Criterion sale at bestbuy.com & amazon

I will eventually catch them all, in a few years I think. Only SD Criterion I own is Seven Samurai which I have upgraded. I currently have around 50 before this sale so I've tripled the number I've owned now. I've never been disappointed with a Criterion yet, but also realize that I need to be in a certain state of mind before watching a random one. I've caught a few on Hulu Plus as well, but I've always been a physical media person instead of streaming. I'll make a final list of everything once they all arrive.
