FYI: Disney Movies Online is Closing

Dear Guest,

Disney Movies Online is closing on December 31st. As part of this change, purchases, upgrades, and Magic Code entries can no longer be made on the Disney Movies Online website. You can continue to stream your existing movies until December 31st.

You can still enter Magic Codes on DisneyMovieRewards.com, and Disney Movies Rewards services will not be interrupted. You can also continue to use your Disney member name and password to access and enjoy other Disney websites. In addition, if you purchased a Disney Combo pack with Digital Copy, your Digital Copy can still be transferred and watched from either iTunes or Windows Media Player. Please visit our FAQs for more details.

We truly appreciate your support of our service—we have enjoyed serving you!

Best regards,
The Disney Movies Online Team

This is why I have never trusted Disney.

that's what I'm afraid with online services, I just started VUDU and I already have like 10 movies. Hope it doesn't go down one day :S

Re: FYI: Disney Movies Online is Closing

Vudu already removed porn videos after Wal-Mart bought the company. They were nice enough to give refunds to those who bought them however. Looks like on this Di$ney thing you have to request a refund for anything you 'bought' there. I use Vudu for rentals and I've redeemed a number of Ultraviolet codes I've gotten free with discs, but I would never 'buy' a movie on something like this. Despite being labeled 'HD', the quality is NOT equal to Blu-Ray anyways and you would have to be blind not to see that!

I consider anything I get that's digital as a bonus. I refuse to pay anything because stuff like this has happened.

Disney Movies Online was the only reason I cared if got a movie with or without the DC at the same price. There goes any need for that. The only reason I liked it was I didn't have to do anything to have it available after entering the rewards code.

They had something called "Keychest" planned too, which doesn't seem to have gone anywhere. That was their main reason for not supporting Ultraviolet, not that I need that either. You just know that Disney would LOVE to get rid of physical media altogether though, since then they could REALLY put stuff in the vault whenever they wanted and nobody would be able to see it again until they said so!

You know one day that will happen at Disney. Consumers are going to end up losing several "rights" they believe they are entitled to when the physical media market disappears. Studios have been looking for ways to kill the secondary market for their home video products since it first began.

Dizzy Studios would be more apt. I can't keep up with these people.

Re: FYI: Disney Movies Online is Closing

Until this thread I had never heard of Disney Movies Online. I'm still not sure what it is after reading this thread. It sounds like it's that free streaming you get when you enter certain movie codes into DMR. I didn't know it was a separate website as I never clicked on the stream option.

At first I got worried it was saying the DMR program is ending and we have until the end of the year to redeem all of our points, but fortunately it's some superfluous website which should be a non-issue for me if it doesn't affect DMR.

Re: FYI: Disney Movies Online is Closing

The reason I used the Disney Movies Online is that other family members could watch what I bought. This is why I prefer Ultraviolet where they actually provide logins for 5 others. With Apple only I can access the movies :P

Some movies were free and some you still had to pay extra for. Sucks to be anyone that paid but that's the risk you take with not going physical.

This is correct. When redeeming the DMR code, you got access to the streaming version of the movie for free if the physical version you bought came with a digital copy. If the physical version did not come with a digital copy, you could buy the streaming version for a reduced price.

I barely used it and certainly never bought any streams.
