Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

just happened to check Dollar Tree yesterday and found DVD copies of the made-for-TV Sound Of Music DVD with Carrie Underwood

SORRY< THIS WAS NOT BLU-RAY. Just regular DVD but includes "Making Of" feature.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

Went back to one of the ones that never stocked, and lo and behold, they eventually did stock. Knew I should've been on top of that store, because still no sign of the elusive American Pie and I wouldn't be shocked if they had it and sold out (unless that somehow skipped my region entirely). Gonna have to check my closest store, which also never stocked.

Still, I found a couple more Blus and did okay, so I can't complain.

Blu-rays

- Columbus Circle
- Darkman (FINALLY!)

Two of the Darkman copies had cracked cases. Glad I noticed that and got the one good one.

DVDs

- Awaken (with slip)
- The Barber
- U-571

I'm not sure why I didn't get Barber until now. Was it available as a Blu in a past deal? If so, I probably kept hoping to find that.

I can't stand submarine settings, but the cast of U-571 is so good that I couldn't resist.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I haven't seen these show up yet, but after hearing reports about them, I did call a few stores around me. 2 of them seemed fairly confident that there were DVDs/BDs on their next truck and they'd appear sometime over the weekend. I wish they could have been more specific.

Brass Teapot is really good. The best of this bunch that I have seen. Perfect Host was another good one.

Upside Down & Parkland are quite good. If Good Neighbors is the film with Scott Speedman, that's a good one too.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

My closest store had a poster in the window advertising the BDs as the item of the week. I didn't see them, however, when I walked in. I asked with hopes that they'd pull out boxes from the back for me. Instead I'm told they're expected on a truck tomorrow. Called the next closest store to me and was told the same thing though possibly not put out until Sunday.

Hit my nearest DT this a.m. and was skunked. Maybe I should try again this weekend.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

First store had 1/3 Blu-ray's vs. 2/3 DVD's, all in electronics. I picked up almost all, at least 1 copy of everything (except Architect) was in the original cellophane packaging instead of shrink:

Angels Crest
Are You Here
Architect shrinked
Bad Lieutenant
Brass Teapot
Good Doctor
Good People w/slip
Killing Season
Prince Avalanche
Reach Me
Shadow Dancer
Stolen BB Excl. Combo Pack w/slip
Strangerland
To The Wonder
Upside Down

Second store had 2 Blu-ray's (that I'd just bought), with over 100 DVD's, all in electronics.

Third DT was unloading the truck and I was told it'd be awhile, so drove to 4th DT and was told they were also unloading, and it would be 3 hours. Drove back to 3rd one and a really helpful employee found 2 cartons of movies and brought them to the front. 31 Blu-ray vs. 29 DVD. Only new stuff for me was:

Ondine x1
Wonderful World x1
Jungle Stuff w/slip x2
^ All of those were in original cellophane, as were most others.

Drove back to the 4th store, and 50 mins. later the same guy told me 3 hours (still).

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

Went back to the 4th store and they had 5 boxes = 2 of all BD's, 3 of all DVD's. But there were some extras out of boxes that led me to wonder if maybe there was a 6th carton, put out before "3 hours" that customers and/or employees had purchased.

New to me were:
Good Neighbors
Rampart
Runner w/$5 Vudu credit that I've heard is still good, but have not tried myself
The Code / The Contract
The Great Buck Howard
Trespass

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I went to a few stores, all close by and close to each other. I wonder if Labor Day delayed some shipments, because only one of the stores had anything. It was kinda picked over, but I still managed to score a few decent finds.

Blu-rays

- Answer Man
- Brother's Keeper
- Good Neighbors
- Home Run
- Killing Season
- Parkland (a friend got this for me)
- Reach Me
- Roadie (almost bought the DVD for $3 from Big Lots, so I was happy to find this)
- Strangerland

DVDs

- Elsa & Fred
- Songs in Ordinary Time

BTW, I asked about movies in the last store. He said check back Wed. I'm dubious, but we'll see.

The only thing I saw at my store that hasn't been mentioned yet was something called A Hijacking.

I saw that, it was pretty good. Basically like the Danish CAPTAIN PHILLIPS. Or, since it preceded CP, one could say CP was the American A HIJACKING.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I went to three more DTs today - the ones that weren't as close - because someone else was driving and wanted to go. Can't beat that. Unfortunately, those are the ones I should have checked yesterday, because they were pretty well picked over today - at least Blu-wise. I wasn't able to do an early morning run, and didn't have the time and energy for much later in the day yesterday. Out of the 35 reported Blus, I think I ended up with maybe 10 (one today). There are still a few more stores to check back on that didn't have stock yesterday, but I'm not making that trip today - too tired now. Maybe tomorrow. Really happy with what I got overall though, so it might be a case of diminishing returns at this point to look for the few more that may be interesting. I'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Anyway, my finds today:

Blu-ray

- Are You Here (was glad to find this - with these actors, even if it's not great, it's guaranteed to at least be cute and pleasant)

DVD

- 8-Action Film Pack (x3 – 1 for myself, 2 for cases)
- Betty White Collection (I saw two versions of the this – with the only difference, as far as I could tell, being the size of the case. I got the thicker case, because this is a 4-disc set. Probably doesn't matter though, because this is Echo Bridge/Mill Creek/whatever, so the discs are probably stacked either way, lol.)
- Cashmere Mafia: The Complete Series (x2 – one was a gift for my sister; at these prices, why lend?)
- Life Partners (I like Adam Brody and the girl)
- Mr. Nobody (I'm betting we'll see the Blu-ray in a future wave, but I really wanted this, so I'll gamble for a buck)
- Visitors (looks like Deathship, and I like Radha Mitchell, so we'll see)

At one of the DTs, an old lady asked me for advice about DVDs because I was "the expert," hahaha. I told her Parkland was great, she told me Reign Over Me was great (I agreed), and she asked me about Upside Down. I told I haven't seen it, but I heard it was good - weird but good. She said she liked weird. This conversation was better than any of the movies I've found.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

Only one blu ray at my local Dollar Tree. It was one I didn't have though. Strangerland. Tons of DVDs but I skipped them all. I have too many DVDs.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I went to the local DT to see if they had anything. I don't really need new movies (join the club, right?), but these are the ones I got. They had some more, I don't remember all of them:

Strangerland
Upside Down 3D
Parkland
Killing Season
Are You Here
Stolen
The Runner ($5 VUDU credit, looks to expire 12/1/2018)

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I visited three different locations. Only one of the three had a DVD shipment and put out on the floor.

Unfortunately, someone had beaten me to the one location with stock. They basically took every Blu-ray in the selection, leaving a small handful left. The DVDs were untouched, but I've cut back on mindless DVD purchases because they are cheap.

The only blu ray I have not seen anyone mention yet that I saw was Sacrifice with Cuba Gooding and Christian Slater.
