Re: Barnes and Noble Criterion/Art House Sale 10/30/12-11/19/12

Got an order today. Not mine, though. I ordered Branded to Kill and Eating Raoul, opened my package today and found Rules of the Game and People on Sunday. Now I have to deal with the hassle of shipping these back and getting my correct order.

Ugh.

So while there is stores that don't care and allow people to use them you have no recourse if they don't because it says right on the coupon not to.
I always print out the coupons large enough that you can read the numbers on the bar code but small enough that all the fine print is illegible. Then the clerk has no option but to just scan the damn thing and see if it goes through.

Note that I tried using the BN Buzz coupon again last night, and it came back as expired on 11/6. All the BN Buzz coupons are probably expired now then, but might be worth a try if you don't have another option.

I don't even print out the coupons anymore, I just say I have it on my phone and show it to them. They always just ask me to read the number under the barcode. Never had an issue.

Was told outright by an employee today that they're cracking down hard at my B&N because some guy is abusing the shit out of the sale. I heard the employee joking with another employee that he's supposed to return later that night. Apparently he told them that it was a "new" coupon. Way to ruin it for the rest of us.

actually they have a very good excuse. it's name is Sandy. Perhaps you shouldn't be placing $100 orders for dvds if a second charge is going to cause overdraft fees. or at least make sure you have enough to cover the 2nd charge if it were to happen because of the issues they were having. Frankly, it was pretty stupid to place the order twice with not enough $ in the account to cover it if the first popped up.

That's stupid. Just tell the guy his business is no longer welcome. Don't penalize everyone else.

A poster at the Criterion forum is reporting that the sale has been extended a week until 11/26, based on a memo shown by a B&N clerk. Let the bananas do the happy dance....

Re: Barnes and Noble Criterion/Art House Sale 10/30/12-11/19/12

I got admonished by a clerk the other day because I DIDN'T try to use two different coupons in one transaction. I did two separate transactions because I had one 20% off coupon and one 15% off, and from the wording on the coupons, I didn't think you could use them both at the same time. She got an attitude with me because she had to ring me up twice. So the next day I came back and used a 20% off coupon, a 15% off coupon, and a $5 off $50 all on one transaction. I normally wouldn't do that (plus I had already used a 20% and a 15%), but she ticked me off quite a bit, so I didn't feel too bad. Got The Three Colors Trilogy for a killer price though, so I thank her for her rudeness.

I heard they extended it due to the glitches and stores being closed due to Sandy, very fair if so. I have already pre-ordered all the new releases so this doesn't help me, but for those that missed out on Heavens Gate will be happy.

I nicely asked to use two 20% off coupons on separate transactions. I was told "no", and was asked if I had already used the coupon, at any other locations, and/or on other days. I was then given a stern lecture about coupon abuse.

I felt the treatment I received to be harsh....the full body-cavity search in the stockroom....uncalled for.

Did they find your stash of coupons in there? Hopefully they didn't find your jailhouse drugs. Also, they had go to the cavity search although you were already BuckNaked?

On another note I asked a guy that works in the media at B&N and has worked there for quite some time about an extension of the sale. He told me that he had not heard anything come down about it and that it still states that the sale ends on the 19th in the system. However, I'm hoping that he is just misinformed and the sale goes on.

When I picked up my order of The Game and Eating Raoul, the clerk randomly offered up news about the sale extension, so I feel pretty good that it is legit.

I will take the previous posts as confirmation and just assume that the clerk, although a respected one, just hadn't been informed yet. He didn't say that it wasn't going to happen but rather that he hadn't received notice of it nor that it had been registered in the system as of yesterday.

Picked up The Trilogy of Life today for $28 plus tax which included the 10% member discount and the $8off $40 bluray coupon did take with no issue.

Have this on hold and will probably pick up tomorrow. I haven't been able to get the $8 0ff $40 with $39.99 titles but will certainly not turn down $36 with member discount.

B&N Buzz still works, and I have the receipt to prove it. I've had two different cashiers at the same B&N in Manassas, VA use it for me. I picked up the Royal Tenenbaum's for $14.99 yesterday. I don't plan on using it again during this sale, so any local people feel free to use it. This is a great deal, but only when you're not "between jobs."

It would be nice if suddenly it worked on member accounts again and Sandy got all the blame for the 'expiration' messages
Ok, so I decided I needed to use it one last time today. Same store different cashier again. It didn't work. The two other times the cashiers, went through a series of steps, which they sort of verbally repeated out loud. Like the had to denote what sort of coupon it was from a list of options, a process that seemed to take 45 seconds or so. The cashier today just entered the code right away and I heard an audible beep when he hit enter. He said it expired "November 1st." Which is weird because I used it yesterday. So either it expired yesterday and he said the incorrect day, or there are several ways to enter a coupon. One that takes a few seconds and one that's sort of convoluted that takes longer (where the coupon is accepted).

I bought Rules of the Game anyway, considering I've more than gotten my mileage out of that code. I think between this sale and the last I probably used it a dozen times. I think I'll try the coupon once more before the sale is over- but at least not on that cashier and maybe at a different store.

My local clerk accepted the 20% off coupon. I didn't realize until later that it expired on the 11th. Got Weekend for $15 and change.

Any additional affirmation of the extension of the sale beyond 11/19?
