Thank you! I see that Star Trek TNG Seasons 1&2 are $63.99 each.

bsmith 09-26-12 04:17 PM

Re: DVD EMPIRE 20% off everything

That is a pretty good pre-order on Star Trek TNG season 2 as insurance in case Amazon doesn't come through with a good price as we get closer to the release.

is the 20% already off with no coupon code? Do they charge pre-orders when they ship or when order is placed?

Sound Of My Voice is $16.XX. Still around $30 on Amazon for some reason.

terrible website. unless i am totally blind, I couldn't see the shopping cart on the main page. search and sort options/filters leave a lot to be desired. and by 'everything' they don't mean 'used inventory' - at least the one used item I tried to order, discount did not apply. in this day and age, having such a primitive looking site design is unforgiveable

Qualifies for free shipping, so yes. Also, they do not charge until the item is shipped. I've ordered from them in the past with no issue. My preorder is in just in case. I'm pretty sure Amazon will come down in price as we get closer but unless they beat by more then just a couple of dollars I'll stick with Empire. I don't like it when Amazon starts so high and waits so long before giving us the true discounted price.

They haven't done a redesign since around 2007 or so (I worked there until 2009), so that's the layout they've had for about five years now. The pre-2007 look was actually simpler/easier to use, IMHO, but you know designers...they love to change things.

Thanks for posting this. There are a few really good deals to be had there, and I love that it works for preorders too.

I would like to know this as well. I don't see a coupon code anywhere, and when I add the items to my cart, still no discount. Can anyone help?

The prices are already marked down. There's no code.

Re: DVD EMPIRE 20% off everything

Some of them you have to go to the product page. Bond 50 showed up as their regular price on their homepage, but if you clicked on it and went to the other view it showed up with 20% off.

Duellists for 11.99 looks like one of the few that I'd be interested in. Anybody see some other solid deal to pair it for free shipping. I noticed shout factory's "Sometimes a great Notion" is 11.99 too, but I don't know if I want that one.

I did Sound of My Voice and Strangers on a Train for $28 shipped. Nice deal considering SoMV is $30 alone on Amazon.

Do you know if the Blu-ray from DVD Empire comes with DVD also? Amazon has it as "Blu-ray/ DVD + Digital Copy" but under Number of Discs, it says "1". Is this a flipper disc?

I'd really like to get both BR and DVD for $16 so any information would help. Thanks.

the Zombie blu-ray mentioned in the first post is the single-disc release that was just released. If you want the 2-disc blu-ray - it's cheaper at Amazon.

Lawrence of Arabia is $15.51; Qatsi Trilogy from Criterion is $44.75 - not super-fabulous deals, but decent (the Qatsi won't be released until December, so won't be part of the supposed B&N 1/2 off sale in November). --Peter

It's even cheaper at Walmart.com, but probably around the same price with tax (except for those who have to pay tax at Amazon). But for those without Prime, WM may be the best way to go, since they have free shipping to store.

I couldn't tell you the last time I shopped there.. aren't their prices usually way higher than everywhere else? But I'll check out the sale and see what I can come up with. :)

Those are the $30 msrp titles, so $17.56 isn't that great.

Yep. Criterions need to be half off or better before I consider them a good deal as B&N has their twice annually 50% off sale and Criterion has the occasional 50% off as they did last week.

I put in a couple of separate orders, mainly for pre-orders. Mainly went after Shout Factory titles and 3D titles...

They Live/Halloween II & III
Avatar 3D
I, Robot 3D
Flying Swords of Dragon Gate 3D

I pre-ordered all the Scream Factory blu-rays and also picked up Chungking Express for a Christmas present, since it is now apparently out of print.

What's the point of this post. Of course a mediocre sale is better than none at all... but just a "little" patience will yield a lot more savings.

I totally agree with this and also thank the OP. First time order for me from here and contrary to laidbacklarkin above I found their search engine to be great, much more comprehensive and user friendly than, say, GoHastings for example.

I picked up the four BLIND DEAD movies and added the western 7 MEN FROM NOW to get Free Shipping. Two of the movies are on back order so I hope I get them soon. Even so the $28 tag for everything beat Amazon. And no tax!

What's the point? The point is, nine times out of ten I try and contribute to this forum, someone comes right along and slams down my contribution. $17 for a criterion is a good deal, if you missed the 24 hours sale at Criterion, or didn't want to spend $50 to get free shipping. People here are quick to say "your deal sucks." And it's frustrating and annoying.

I know what you mean; but 50% off Criterions is so common that its hard not to point out that waiting is a good option.

I'm sorry that you're annoyed, but think of the alternative. You and I and others sometimes get told our deals can be beat; or no one mentions the better deals worth waiting for and multiple people pay more than they need.

Personally, I take the occasional 'chastisement' but enjoy the overall better sharing of possible deals.
