I had heard they sell them at a used store.. doesn't Best Buy own a few used music/movie stores? I know they used to own the few remaining Sam Goody/Musicland stores - like the one in Hawaii

really? that's a little disheartening - you'd think they'd give them to libraries or redistribute them somehow, as a tax write off or something... and to think I gave them a Criterion DVD

Finally took part in my first T&S. Nabbed these for $5 each:

9
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Batman Begins
Final Destination 5

Wanted to grab all the Final Destination flicks but the only other one they had was 4.

I finally ran into a "dvd trade in" Nazi at the service desk, I knew it would happen eventually. But they took 3 of my 5 so I didnt complain. He said he wouldnt take two of my CSI discs that were sold in regular style cases from Columbia House back in the day, because "they were not complete seasons" WTF LOL. I will just dump them there on another visit.

A smart person would destroy the 98-99% that were trash (because let's admit most of us are giving up complete crap) and then the 1-2% they should be reselling. I can't sit here and think if they see like Giles Criterion disc that they are going simply toss it in the shredder. But maybe they do...that's a little scary (and kinda sensless).

It doesn't really make sense, if true, when they have a trade in center on the bestbuy website where they buy used DVDs.
They would be able to sell a great many DVD's for a dollar or more at least.
The last few times that I have been bringing my Disks in they have been checking to see if the surface of the disks are scratched. Why would they bother if they were just recycling them?

I finally got in and did some upgrading. Got:
Ice Age
Ice Age: The Meltdown
Wyatt Earp/Assassination of Jesse James
Silence of the Lambs
Date Night
Babe

for $5 each (actually Babe was $2 thanks to the Universal coupon)

To bad I already got Batman Begins in the last upgrade event; I would have liked the steelbook and the $5 movie credit.

Had to go use my mobile phone check coupon and they didn't have anything but the BB Exclusive M:I4 so I decided to give it a go. When it rang up $29.99, I mentioned that it was supposed to be $10 and she overrode it saying that they'd done this before because despite the system saying they have the normal edition in stock, they can't find them anywhere and thus have been allowing the 3-disk to substitute. Nice! Also picked up the M:I trilogy and Date Night for $15 billion total. LIKE A BOSS!

^^ I wish them luck reselling all of those Dollar Tree 25 cents DVD's!

I used 4 more coupons tonight (9 total so far). I TRIED to get the Exclusive MI4, but they wouldnt bite. She actually thought they were sold out of the regular edition (apparently they were gone yesterday, but got more in today) but they weren't willing to substitute anyway. But they went in the back and got me a regular edition. However, I did score the MI trilogy for 4.99, 9 1/2 weeks, plus Babe for $1.99 AC.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, $5 Off Blu-ray titles, Jul 15 - Aug 11, 2012

When I recently asked and was told "No" about trading in HD0DVDs at Best Buy, the cashier said that the place they sold them to wouldn't accept HD-DVDs and that the store had to throw them away. So they seem to be selling them to a third party, which makes the recycling theory seem a little less likely. Who knows for sure, but I am curious what exactly is becoming of these DVDs. I'm assuming the profit margins on Blu-ray aren't that great for B&M stores, so taking $5 off Blu-rays doesn't seem to make a lot of sense from a financial perspective. So I'm thinking there has to be some sort of financial incentive for Best Buy running this program, and I'm wondering what makes all these DVD's worth that money and who is really paying for it.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, $5 Off Blu-ray titles, Jul 15 - Aug 11, 2012

I can't find DDA in the Los Angeles area to save my life. I'll probably throw in the towel on that conquest, even if the price doesn't change in the morning.

As far as what BB does with our trade-ins, I'm glad someone cares to know becuz I don't lol. I think the vast majority of trade and save customers are buying expensive stuff or are trading in large quantities overall, which leads to alot of money spent.

Either way, BB makes out big time becuz they probably sell 50% more movies during this promotion than any four week cycle in the year when they're not running it. I know they made $30 bucks from me that they wouldn't have otherwise received.

I just hope their $9.99 crop of movies doesnt eventually fall back into the same ol stuff that has been overstocked and overprinted since the beginning of time. They had a good first week. Based on the ad, week 2 isn't promising, but we will see.

Is that Dog Day Afternoon? The Burbank store still had a couple in stock as late as Thursday night (the last time I was there). They're not on the regular rack, they're on that WB display near the front of the store.

I used my 5 U&S coupons. Got home, opened the best buy bag and saw them attached to my receipt. Would I be able to still use them again? or are they no longer valid?

Looks like last week's $9.99 Warner titles are all $14.99 now...not just the new releases like Coma, Altered States, etc. but the older ones like Dog Day Afternoon as well.
