Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/..._ya_os_product
Price is after removal of VAT plus shipping. No word yet if this set is region free but most Universal discs are region free if they hold world rights to films. However this is no guarantee. Much cheaper than US Amazon price which is currently $112. At current exchange rate UK set is about $53.30 plus whatever mark ups your credit card company makes on international transactions. |

Most excellent, I was looking almost everyday to see when the pre-order would go up.

In for 1. Thanks. Will cancel if not region-free.

Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
Just fyi, it apparently doesn't include the spanish version of Dracula.
|
Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
It's probably best to wait for a full list of extras, but apparently the Spanish Dracula is being treated as an extra to the original Dracula on the US set and would therefore be expected to be on the UK set as well.
EDIT: I dug around a bit and the Australian press release, which features the same artwork as the UK set, lists the Spanish Dracula as a bonus feature as well. http://www.thereelbits.com/2012/07/0...n-for-october/ It would be pretty odd if they would leave it out just for the UK release. |
Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
Anyone think it will have the same style packaging as the us set?

Amazon has pictures of both sets and they're different.

What a shame they include that crappy PHANTOM OF THE OPERA instead of SON OF FRANKENSTEIN.

Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
I'm in for one. It's too good of a deal to pass up but I hope the Amazon.UK site doesn't charge me tax after it ships since I live in California.

Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
Amazon UK never charged me taxes in Canada. I think I've paid duty fees every single time though.

Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
Very true but im still curious if the foreign Amazon sites will charge tax anyway since the American site will charge sales tax to California residents starting September 1st of this year. Regardless, it's still a great deal and my pre-order is in.

Thanks for the post. I never mind buying the UK version if I can save a few bucks, and this is one of my most anticipated releases.

That's great to hear! I feel like impact practically stealing this box set at this low price! Kudos to the British.

Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
The price has shot up to £37.49 or about $58. Still a good deal. I don't usually pre-order, but this is something I couldn't pass up.

Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
Nice find, went ahead and ordered and will keep an eye on the Region status as it gets closer.
Assuming the bit about Universal being region-free holds true, I notice they also have the 14-disc Hitchcock boxset about $75 cheaper than Amazon US. On the fence with that one, as it's still about $150. Feels like something Amazon US might run a lightning deal on for the holidays, though who knows how much cheaper it'll be than their current ~$225. |
Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
The Hitchcock set is missing North by Northwest though.
|
Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
Ahh, didn't catch that. Still, not a bad deal for those who have the 50th Anniversary North by Northwest, or don't mind picking it up separately for $15 - $20.
|
Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
For this set (and the Hitchcock set for that matter), do we have enough info yet to know if anything is missing from the UK vs US sets? I like the look of the UK Hitchcock set way better than the US one, and NxNW doesn't bother me as I already have that one. I'd hate to lose a book or extras or something like that with either set though. Any thoughts?

Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US
I couldn't resist this monster deal (ha), but am hoping for early reviews in time to cancel should this be another Universal DNR Fest.
Many thanks to ClassicFilms for catching this! |
