That would be great but it doesn't look that way from the pictures at Amazon. Looks more like the discs will be in cardboard.

Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US

Per a customer review on Amazon UK:

By stryper
Format:Blu-ray I emailed Universal U.K. and was told that the coffin set would be region free and that the discs would be housed in digi packs (folded over cardboard with a plastic tray to hold the discs and NOT the stupid book thingy where the discs are held between pages of tight cardboard) the only possible downside to this set-up is that they said that it would be two discs per tray (one on top of the other, but not touching) which is a pain when trying to get at the bottom disc.

It also looks like the book will be included as a book and not a housing for the discs, as well as the movie poster cards.

I have uploaded two pictures (hopefully) that show the French coffin set (which, although the coffin cover art is different, is, according to Universal U.K., how that inside will look in the U.K. version) and the U.K. set (but the U.K. set is a tad confusing as they have both the regular and the coffin set mixed together in the picture and no pictures of the digi packs (but like I said, I confirmed with Universal U.K. that the discs would be housed in digi packs and that the set will be region free).

).

Hopefully this will be true.

nice.

Now let's hope to Jesus titty fucking Christ that Universal doesn't treat these films as they did w/ Hitch's. *sigh* I still don't know if I want set or not now.

So, not only is the US version more costly, but we don't get the option for the coffin box cover? Lame.

I'll get my set from UK Amazon once this is in customer's hands for confirmation of:

- Region free.
- inclusion of Spanish version of Dracula.

What happened with that set? Haven't been paying super close attention.

About half the films (the most recent/less popular ones) seem to be using old HD masters that were just DNRed to death. That and retyped credits for one of the films with many typos/different fonts.

Considering dumping my Hitchcock order, but getting Bond instead... Seeing as 21 of the 23 discs are region free. Plus then my Universal Monsters will ship quicker.

That's what I would do, especially if the shipping isn't increased by too much.
There's no point in holding up your order because of 1 set.

^ I concur with your statement. I believe I will cancel everything but Hitchcock, then create a new order. Seeing as you can't order the cool Hitchcock set currently, I don't want to screw myself. However, I changed my mind on Bond. I can get the US set for $143 shipped from CH, and it counts as 3 fulfillments. I figure that works out to be a better deal in the long run...

What's the story with the Spanish Dracula? I know it's supposedly been confirmed by email that it's there, but is there anything official out there? Is there any legal reason why they couldn't use it? Since it's region free, what are the chances of these discs being exactly the same but with different labels?

The fancy Hitchcock set is back in stock.

I'm confused on the dates mentioned earlier. Hitchcock and Monsters both have an October 1st release date.

Well these are shipping now so hopefully we'll be able to confirm case type and Spanish Dracula inclusion in the near future.

The Spanish Dracula is there and in 1080p- here's a review with some screencaps.

I typically receive packages from the UK much faster than the estimated date so I'm hoping it gets here next week. Those screen shots are amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on this set.

Thanks to some OT at work I'm gonna order this, soon. It's a shame that so many people are going to be suckered into buying the US release.

Re: Universal Monsters £34.32 from Amazon.co.uk Shipped to US

I live in Canada and ordered my Universal Monsters Essential Collection from Amazon UK. The price difference was too big to ignore, even if I get hit with some tax and duty. I certainly hope the special features play and aren't PAL or anything like that.

Hitchcock is tempting too, but given one movie is missing from the North American version, I'm undecided.

Indeed it is, but a lot of people will just wait, you know. Not everyone has to have everything first. The U.S. is a far classier packaging job than yet another flimsy plastic gatefold thingy or a quickly outdated tsotchke box, and the price will drop inevitably. I'm sure some people have bought these films so many times over the years that there's no rush.

I have waited to order so I can hear from people who receive it to let us know for sure that all special features and everything play just fine. If that is so, I'll buy it without a doubt!
