Re: Fry's Anniversary Sale starting May 18

That has the be the lowest price historically on the Alien set -- well the U.S. version.

Thanks OP. Good prices but nothing worth driving 35 miles to get, especially in Houston traffic.

Re: Fry's Anniversary Sale starting May 18

A longer list can be found at: http://slickdeals.net/forums/showpos...98&postcount=6

Target no longer carries the Alien Anthology or Puss n Boots 3D, and my 2 closest Walmarts were OOS, so I had to go a Walmart 5 miles away and to another Target to get everything I wanted (I got a few other 3D BDs too).

I expect my BB probably had a couple copies, but fortunately I didn't have to go there, especially as they always take more time because they call up Fry's to check inventory. The sad thing is that in this economy most stores carry so little inventory requiring more driving. I seriously doubt there are more than a handful of copies of the Alien Anthology at all B&M stores within a 10 mile radius of me.

What was funny is the Walmart employees were saying what a great deal it is. I said yes, it's the best so far but I bet in 91 days it'll be $19.99 and I'll wish I had waited.

I've never seen Amazon PM Fry's Electronics because they are a regional store (not to mention they often have in-store only stuff, unadvertised sales, and run out of stock quickly). If I'm wrong about that, someone please correct me.

It's better to go to Frys.com and see if any titles you want have free shipping. Otherwise you'll have to go to the store.

I got what I wanted from Walmart and Target, but I could've skipped Walmart if I had known Frys.com would make the Alien Anthology available for free shipping later in the day. Oh well. I have it in my hands now so I can put it on a shelf and let it collect dust for a few years before I open it... at which point there will be Super-BD and I'll want to upgrade it again.

Welp, spent about $50 on the following.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo $11.99
Columbiana $11.99
Dragonheart $7.99
The Thing (old) $5.00
a wireless Logitech mouse for the office $9.27 (same as the one I really like that I have for the house but more understated design so somebody doesn't gank it...WIN!)

Picked up Midnight in Paris and Contagion. Thought hard about picking up the Alien BR set, but will stick with my LDs and DVD set for now.

HUGO 3D was OOS at Irving, TX, but they gave me a rain check with no problem.

Why am I not surprised that Hugo 3D is unavailable for shipping?

All the good stuff is now unavailable for shipping. The sale started on 5/18, so you really needed to jump on it that day... I missed it, too.

Re: Fry's Anniversary Sale starting May 18

Thanks OP! I haven't been to Fry's in awhile, swung by the Irving, TX store last night after seeing this thread and was surprised to find just about everything I wanted in stock. I definitely thought the Alien sets would be gone, but they had at least four copies still when I got there.

Alien Anthology
Midnight in Paris
Moneyball
The Deer Hunter
Annie Hall
Manhattan
Rebecca
Notorious
Psycho

Re: Fry's Anniversary Sale starting May 18

Went to the Fry's in Sacramento. I was looking for Gangs of New York but couldn't find it. They had a ton of Alien Anthology and Back to the Future sets. I'm strapped for money so I just picked up Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and 8gb flash drive. I'm tempted to unironically pick up that Mummy Trilogy set, I'm just that big a fan of the first one.

Re: Fry's Anniversary Sale starting May 18

They had Chicago (the movie) blu ray on sale at mine for $6.99 which I thought was a good price. Maybe not the best deal ever, but the cheapest I've seen it new.

Fry's actually had it for $5 last week.

WHY? Take it from me, once you see these movies in blu-ray, you'll chuck everything else outside of a moving vehicle. And 29.99 is well worth the investment. You should go back and get it imo.

Re: Fry's Anniversary Sale starting May 18

I went to Fry's with very little time (solely because I was passing by and wanted to check some phones), so I didn't spend much time in the BD section, but I saw they still had at least 20 Alien Anthology sets. It was a moot point since I drove out of my way last Friday to get one at a Walmart because (1) I didn't know I'd be going by Fry's later this week and (2) I didn't trust Fry's to have enough inventory. My crystal ball never works.

There are tons of BDs I don't have, but even at $5 I can't go too crazy. I don't own Chicago (for instance), but I found it too boring to pay $5 for the BD. Musicals are great if you like the music, but most modern music doesn't do it for me.

The one title I was looking for was Some Like It Hot BD for $6.99. I had a raincheck from the previous week when they were OOS, and they were still OOS. The guy said we should get 1 copy tomorrow. I felt saying "you get 1 copy once every 2 weeks... wow, why even bother carrying the title?" The raincheck I got was only good for 1 week as that employee claimed that $6.99 was the new normal price. Is that right? If it is, I'll just keep my eye out for it whenever I go (which is not too often) and someday I might find it.

Re: Fry's Anniversary Sale starting May 18

I got lucky and got paid yesterday so I went and picked up the Alien set. Funnily enough my alternate choice of the Mummy trilogy was all sold out, go figure. They still had plenty of copies of the Bourne and Godfather sets.
