FWIW, a couple of the CSRs have given me just one coupon with the receipt, saying that the coupon is then good for the 1-5 trade-ins on the receipt.

They never keep the trade-in receipt or scan it or mark it, and sometimes give me back the coupons; so I guess, in theory, one set of trade-ins can turn into an almost unlimited amount of BD purchases.

Now I wish I had picked up some 99 cent discs at a Blockbuster that was closing last weekend. I didn't know they took ex-rentals. I would've taken advantage of this.

Yep. Great tip. I'll have to scour one out.

As long as it's a commercial DVD does it matter? Should I open them up instead of leaving them sealed?

I also got some other Blu-rays that are just collecting dust on my shelf.. maybe this is rhetoric but do they accept BD discs or is this DVD only?

Everything is YMMV at any store of course, but they've been pretty lenient in my experience.

Some CSRs have said that the DVD must have a UPC, but many have taken my Die Hard trilogy individual slimcases. All of the 25 cent slimcase educational titles at the Dollar Trees have worked for me so far, as did a HD-DVD last night. Demo and promo disks are working. I sorta doubt a BD would work, but you never know.

Also, Big Lots often has 3 DVD bundles for $3.

I took five screeners that I got when I worked at BBV. None of them have any bar codes on them.

I have so much unwatched crap on the shelves I can't imagine buying discount discs just to get in on the deal. Not criticizing mind you, I just have about a 100 more I could easily trade in if there were enough new ones I wanted. Too much undisciplined and blind buying early on.

There's at least one person in this thread that said they did it successfully. A sidegrade?

Yeah, I know I'm a hoarder, and I'll often use any excuse of a deal like this to stock up on more stuff. But at least in this case I'm mainly trading in old DVDs with no real value, so I'm paring down my collection since BDs are smaller than DVDs.

Also, I'm not buying every BD just because it's $5, as I did in the early days of DVD, but trying to be much more discriminating. And while I am buying some 25 cent DVDs to get extra coupons, I'm using those on TV sets that I'll later sell the DVD versions I own.

For anyone near/in the Bay Area, the San Rafael, CA store still has one copy of Psycho that I saw.

I picked up the other copy I saw. My first time doing this promotion and it was painless.

So what your saying is that you don't want to stock up on more stuff that you probably won't have time to watch and spend additional $$$ to get it too?

Exactly. I also wouldn't need to buy discs just to trade in. I have a bunch I could throw out tomorrow and not miss them one bit. In the early days I bought based on the deal, and the reputation of the movie. Now I don't buy unless I've seen it and know it has long term value (re-watchability) on the shelf.

I also said "if there were enough new ones I wanted". which there are not. I will grab a few more with this deal but my overall totals stay pretty level.

Ditto on all points, and boy do I regret some of the shitty DVD's I bought back in the day... Still haven't even watched some of em... One minor correction I have to give you shit about. DVD's and BD's are exactly the same size. It's the CASES that are smaller.

One side note/suggestion for those interested in titles that they can't find in-store, but see online: have them shipped to you, then return them to your local store and re-buy them immediately with the coupons. I plan on doing this. I placed my order already. I don't see why the store would care. I suppose you could get a pissy employee who says you can't do it, but I bet the majority of them will do it. I heard of someone who did this with the last trade-in program, but I haven't done it myself yet.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, $5 Off Blu-ray titles, Apr 22 - May 12, 2012

I found a some old crappy DVDs in a box in my closet so I traded those in. I had 8 (I didn't know 5 was the limit), but they rang up two separate transactions so I manage to get 8 coupons.

I picked up Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Thor, Captain America, and Boondock Saints. For those interested, Boondock Saints is on sale on BestBuy.com for $9.99 so I got it for $4.99 even though it's marked $24.99 on the slip cover.

Good deal, I still have 4 more coupons but I don't know if I'll use them. If I don't I'll send them to someone here. I'm going to wait and see if there's any good deals for next week.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, $5 Off Blu-ray titles, Apr 22 - May 12, 2012

Grabbed District B13 for $5 yesterday and promptly went to Dollar Tree to get 4 more coupons. Still no Conan the Barbarian or Mission Impossible Set for me, but hopefully they show up this week along with a few price changes.

EDIT: Looked through the BD titles on the site and it seems I'll make a trip Tuesday and hope they have Clueless in store for the online pre-order price of $11.99, but that is the only new title/price change this week for me. So, I may be holding on to one coupon for the last week of the sale. The $19.99 marvel and new release discs are tempting, but I can wait them out for all of them...they'll all be available for half the price at some point this year.

Forgot to mention when checking out at BB yesterday, I got offered the dreaded "accident protection" plan on the BDs I bought. I remember there was a thread about that a while back. Never actually got such an offer before though.

I have a lot of shitty DVDs to unload. No need for screeners or other stuff. Having said that, not a lot I want to pick up. Best Buy doesn't carry Annie Hall, Notorious, Manhattan, or Spellbound.

Has anyone noticed MyFair Lady BD at Best Buy? If so, what was the price? Haven't seen it at two of my local stores.

Isn't that just absolutely amazing? Instead, they've decided to stock Just Married..... Shallow Hal..... Drive Me Crazy........

I stopped by 2 stores today and the shelves are getting really empty. I remember this happening the last time too: stock got so low all the titles were facing out.
