Lord of the Rings Trilogy - $49.99 @ Amazon.com

Figured this might be worthy of its own thread.

Is the quality lousy? Is it lacking in features? Has another version been released in another region? Is there a better version already announced? This will drop in price soon? You didn't care for the films?

It's long been known that they're going to release the extended editions on blu-ray and the lack of special features have even upset those who just want the theatrical versions.

It's more than a little annoying having to put up with "save your money" remarks in a deal thread. It's over 9 hrs of HD content for what most would agree are awesome films. You could do much worse for your $50, whether it's the extended versions or not. (and some people prefer the theatricals)

It's not like the EE's are coming anytime soon, they're likely two yrs away.

Some of us have the money to buy both the theatrical and extended releases. I did it with the DVDs. I'm sure I'm not alone. So allow us to spend our money the way we want to.

Damn, should have waited since I've only had time to watch Fellowship and a bit of TT so far...still well worth it. Buy it, people!

Interesting. $50 is my pain threshold on the ee's when they come out, and I fully expect to be able to get them at that price within a few months of release.

The theatrical set contains 6 discs of content + 3 discs of Digital Copies. The extended set should be just about the same number of discs, so IMHO, there is little justification for paying anything above $50.

Was holding out for around $45 (same as my Matrix threshold) but tempting........And I do have the money and intention of buying both the theatrical and EE's when they actually come out.

The Best Buy US one was a DVD case size Blu-ray SteelBook, whereas the Canada Future Shop was a Blu-ray case size Blu-ray SteelBook. Also the Canadian one included an empty Blu-ray case to house the first Twilight movie.

Re: Lord of the Rings Trilogy - $49.99 @ Amazon.com

If I could get more than a buck or so for each of the theatrical DVDs on half or ebay, I'd consider upgrading to these, but I think I'll just wait till I can get the EE Blu-ray set on half.com for ten bucks or so. It may take a few years, but I'm a patient man.

Got this for $35 from some guy on Craigslist. It was like new, digital copies un-used, etc. I'm pleased.

Love my set. Fantastic films, look gorgeous. I slightly prefer the extended versions, but to be honest, I'll probably end up watching the theatricals more over my lifetime, due to time reasons.
