I think they use it more loosely. More likely, an "online item" was not returned, but is just merchandise they somehow receive in stock, but don't normally carry in store. Luckily for us, they usually post a really low price sticker on it and stick it on the clearance endcap. Like someone else posted, there are usually multiples across different stores, so not just one off returns.

The BB exclusive blu-ray/dvd of Source Code is $10.99 in store. It's the one with the lenticular slipcover. And it's a great movie as well.

There was a $6.99 BD cardboard display at the front of the store that had a handful of titles ... both of these were in there, as well as Kill Bill, Cider House Rules, Rounders, etc. Some of these were $5.99 a couple weeks back.

I saw that display during lunch today, but didn't realize they were only $6.99. I'd probably get Cop Land for that. Already own Daybreakers (paid much more when it came out, but I've learned since then)...

Thanks for the heads up on Inglorious Bastards and Stake Land. They're still $7.99 and $9.99 respectively. I saw that Birdemic is also $7.99 but I'm having issues committing even that cheap of a price to that one.
