re: International Blu-ray deals

I paid $20-$30 or so for my UK Monsters Blu box; I agree it is a major score.

I should have picked up the Superman Anthology while it was like $16. It still is relatively cheap on Amazon UK but I'll see if it drops again.

That was a freakishly low price. I wouldn't wait around forever for the set to hit that price again.

FYI, you can find the same exact sets, brand new & super cheap on ebay.

The Monsters sets should start shipping for most people who ordered. I got a charge yesterday for it, and they don't charge unless it ships. I would guess I'll be getting a shipping notice probably today or tomorrow.

re: International Blu-ray deals

fyi- just watched the Creature of the Black Lagoon in 3d on a 120" front projection system. OMG. I was BLOWN away by the 3D. WHen the creature's hand reached out toward the screen, I literally jumped back!

I was never a big fan of the movie. Felt it was a rather mundane flick with an awesome creature. Seeing it in 3d feels like an entirely different movie. The "boring" parts are so thrilling with 3D that I didn't mind just seeing the boat float on the river, or people swimming, for long stretches. This is some of the best 3d I have seen - and I have seen a lot of 3D. Maybe it was seeing on such a large screen that made it so immerse. the 3d version of this in high def is enough to buy the set.

p.s. in general, I am not that big a fan of 3d. very selective of which movies I think 3d really adds anything. Needless to say, COTBL is now on that list!

I got my shipping notice today for the Monsters set. Order details show sold by Amazon EU S.a.r.L., which is just their Luxembourg LLC corporate headquarters. Awaiting my delivery.

The only problem with .de is the awful slow German postal service.

Yep. However, I did get a pretty good turn around this time. Ordered on March 30 and received the package from them April 18.

^How many days does the average shipment take? It's my first Amazon.co order so I'm wondering.

Yeah, give it 10 days from the UK, and 3-5 weeks from Germany.

On a side note, Amazon Germany is listening to at least me I think because I've requested better packaging. I bought a few steelbooks, and this time, the packaging was done really nice, and they had specific cardboard protection around the Steelbooks, inside an Amazon.de box with air pads.

For only 22.31 shipped, the Universal Monsters Blu-ray set might very well be the bargain of the year for me. (Bought two sets)

Just curious, what projector do you have? I'm in the market. TIA

re: International Blu-ray deals

The Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece collection is currently at £33.30 (comes to $48.31 shipped). Is this the lowest price for the UK set ? The US price is sheer robbery for the lousy work Universal has done on this overrated but deserve-to-be-maligned set

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alfred-Hitch.../dp/B008RLD1VY

EDIT: Its not the lowest price...been lower before but the exchange rate was less favorable to the USD then :-): http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Alfred...uct/B008RLD1VY

I have a Benq W1070 with an Apex 120" electric screen. Entire set cost me less than $1k. Blacks aren't that great, but for the price it is a fantastic image. There is nothing like seeing blu-rays on a 120" screen.. 3D is pretty nice, too.

Recieved the Monsters set yesterday, but holy crap, the shipping box was crushed to all hell. Amazingly, the set was ok.

USPS, please don't use my packages as seat cushions.

Guess I got super lucky because my set was delivered today. Shipped from the U.K. on 4/18 and arrived on the 7th day. May have helped that I'm in NYC. Shipping box showed some damage but set in pristine condition.

Agreed. I'm on the West Coast, but UK mail is fast. German mail is slow. I'm also an online retailer, & I will not ship to Germany due to numerous past problems.

re: International Blu-ray deals

My order of the Clint Eastwood Box (Universal) got dispatched Sunday 4/19 by Royal Mail and arrived at my SoCal doorstep just now (4/25) - so that's like 6 days. Box was fine, packing tape used said 'amazon.it'...this is mighty fast compared to many moons ago.

I also ordered a couple of titles from Zavvi and received them in 4 days from the date of dispatch. The trans-Atlantic journey all the way to PDT zone is faster than USPS SLAs :-)
