IMHO, I just don't see this set being re-released here in the U.S. without
the "junk".
Thanks for posting this. It's worth considering.

According to the comments on the first review, the silent version is in Blu, but two UK reviews I read say that it is NOT an HD upgrade.

The review in DVD Beaver states that the silent is only in 480p, not in HD:
" For those who inquired, I'm sorry the 1925 Silent version is still in 480i with a 5.0 Mbps bitrate - and did not get the 1080 transfer many had desired.''

That's too bad, but it still might be worth it to me to still get this version as I seriously doubt the silent version, which I don't own in any format, will ever find its way onto Blu-ray.

Slightly off topic, but is this the same situation for The Ten Commandments set?

Re: BEN HUR UCE Best Buy Exclusive -- 10.99 at B&M

I just bought one of these for $10.99. I went to the store where my in-store pick-up was canceled and played dumb. They manually rang it up for $10.99 for me (mgr had to approve of course), WHEW! I feel better now... If anyone else had a PU order canceled, you may want to try this. Make sure you bring the paperwork with showing it was being held until XXX date to show it was canceled early...

Re: BEN HUR UCE Best Buy Exclusive -- 10.99 at B&M

They cancelled mine also. Received full refund and $10 coupon.

So with $10 coupon, I bought Ben-Hur Best Buy Exclusive blu-ray (Not UCE) for $14.98, Batman Anthology Blu-ray for $29.98 and The Goonies 25th Gift Box Blu-ray Set for $19.98. For buying 3 Blu-rays, Best Buy threw in $10 Gift Card. So I paid $59.75 after coupon, after tax plus gave me $10 gift card for future purchase. I picked store pick-up.

Here comes the twist... I went to local Best Buy to pick them up, today. They gave me Ben-Hur UCE Blu-ray Box Set!!!

In clonclusion, I spent $59.75 for Ben-Hur UCE Blu-ray Box Set, Batman Anthology Blu-ray and The Goonies Blu-ray Gift Box set and got $10 Gift Card.

I'm not saying everyone should try this. I was just lucky.

^ I thought it was remarkable how quickly the stores in my town restocked their shelves with the out-of-stock Ben-Hur UCE box sets.

Ben Hur: UCE*

*Ultimate CANCELED Edition.

Best Buy still makes money off this, even with the $10 coupon. Probably could have sent a $20 coupon and still made money for not honoring the 5-day-delay pricing error. They basically made a decision on how much the set would cost them to actually honor the "pricing mistake" versus sending a $10 coupon out to all who ordered.

They don't lose any after canceling all the $11 orders for an item they normally sell for $60+ but how do they make money?

Why on earth would they give you a coupon that would be valid anywhere else?

In regards to the above conversation, I think I can re-word it to sound better and make much more sense, since they can't MAKE money on something not sold, but they can SAVE money. My translation:

Assuming the UCE price was truly a mistake, by canceling the orders Best Buy SAVED a lot of money, since the UCE's surely cost them more than $21 ($10.99 price + $10 value of the coupon they gave out)

Re: BEN HUR UCE Best Buy Exclusive -- 10.99 at B&M

I really scored on this deal. I ordered 4 sets for store pick up (assuming a few of them would be cancelled or unavailable). Since I was going to be traveling cross country on Monday I ordered one for pick up in Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. The Mississippi order was cancelled, picked up the other three and then received a cancellation notice and $10 coupon for one of the orders I had already picked up. Used the $10 to pick up Citizen Kane. 3 x Ben Hur UCE sets and 1 Citizen Kane Digibook for ~$36, not a bad deal, thanks OP!

For those who "only" got one copy & had other orders cancelled, at least you got the one.

After missing the initial early Thursday deal, I kept checking back & ordered two online. Both got cancelled.

The only ones available for in-store pickup were 100 miles away (about $25 gas round-trip at current gas rates). One in Ashville, NC & the other in Knoxville, TN.

I had been contemplating a trip to Knoxville anyway and might have gone with in-store pickup until they popped back up online for home shipping. Since this is a really busy time for us, I didn't go the in-store route...which I wish I had done now, of course. The savings would have pretty much paid for the gas to pick it up, and we would have gotten a free shopping trip out of the deal.

The upshot is...be happy you got any copies. All we got is a $10 Best Buy GC. Hopefully, something will go on sale so that we'll actually save some $ using the code.

At least we did get a couple of Citizen Kanes. They seemed to have plenty of those in stock on the shelves.

I live about 25 miles from the closest Best Buy in Knoxville and when I checked to see if Ben-Hur was in stock at a time I could go pick it up, it was out of stock. Then the closest location that had it in stock was Asheville. Anyway, I have the $10 to spend on something.

Just make sure you use it before the expiration date, which is at the end of the month.
