Re: Amazon Blu-ray Discounts and Deals Thread #27
Not to derail the discussion myself, but...it just felt like before, I didn't have to wait until a few days before release to see if Amazon would match the Best Buy/Target/etc. circulars. It's not so much that the prices would be better than everybody else, but they'd be where they 'ought' to be a lot sooner. With all these price adjustments a few days before titles hit store shelves, it feels like they're playing catch-up to the big box crowd. I might have rose-colored glasses on, and I might be confusing two years ago with five years ago, but it seems like it wasn't too long ago that Amazon would frequently be a couple bucks lower than the other guys for new releases.
It's not a dealbreaker or anything, and I still do probably 90-95% of my BD-buying off Amazon, but I've found myself adding a lot more to my wish list than to my shopping cart recently. I'm not upset, disappointed, frustrated, or anything like that, but I'm not grabbing movies that I probably would've bought on impulse a year ago. I'm more a "preorder and forget about it" kinda guy, and their current pricing strategy doesn't really make that overly appealing.
I might split this off into a different thread too, just in case anyone scolds me for splitting off-topic discussion and then starting one myself.

Yeah...but w/ taxes in Texas that would've sucked. I'll take my tax free 29.99 in June. They fucked us over in July w/ taxes.

I don't keep dates (I probably should) for lowest prices on items I already own, but my spreadsheet says the Alien Anthology BD was $22.17 at Amazon not too long ago. I think camel^3 doesn't catch short-lived (less than a day) deals. Perhaps it was a marketplace seller, but somebody must've posted it since I don't regularly go to the camel^3 or even Amazon to check prices, especially on stuff I already have.
On a slight tangent, but still related to Amazon... Amazon used to have some 99 cent instant video rental specials most weeks (on fairly recent releases), so I'd check the main page to see those. The cheapest I've seen any newer rentals for the last month or more is $1.99. Are the 99 cent instant video specials gone or am I not looking in the right place now?

COMPLETE METROPOLIS - $18.28
Seems like a new low, but feel free to claim otherwise. One Marketplace "fulfilled by" seller is a little cheaper.

^ Amazon is actually $18.28. $17.99 is from a Marketplace seller, fulfilled by Amazon...
I got my pre-order price guarantee refund for Indy. Got it for $61.54 with gold box discount. I know it will be lower eventually, but for a first day release, I'm satisfied with that...

Was about to post all of that (and fix my previous post), but it timed out! My link was actually to the "new" items list so the difference could be seen more clearly, but looks like it just goes to the main product listing page regardless.

That's such a fun movie.
Of course, I got it for my wife for Christmas when it came out so we sat down to watch it... with my parents. Yeah, Drag Me to Hell was not their favorite Christmas movie.
