The price has definitely jumped back up, but I don't think it was a mistake. It's appeared many times in this thread under $10, perhaps to get rid of stock on the "exclusive." I paid $13.99 a year ago and have seen it drop like a rock ever since.

No, that title has been under $10 and dropping gradually since July. They may have unloaded the stock they wanted and raised the price on what remains. Or it could be back down tomorrow. One never knows with Amazon.

I tried to buy something yesterday but by the time I was ready to checkout it had more than doubled in price. Another case where they had been unloading excess stock, I think. Annoying, but what can one do?

I sent them an e-mail about it since I'm a prime member and even if it missed release date it shouldn't have taken that long. They used Smartpost for some reason.
I have lots of open orders at the moment as September is one of the biggest release months for me in years: Titanic, James Bond, Indiana Jones, Avengers,.... Hard to say if that impacted the shipping date or if their systems are buggy.

My copy of Titanic 3D moved to 'Shipping Soon' status today, so I know it will arrive soon. My worry now is that their system will lose my $3 credit as well. If so, they'll get another email from me.

Yeah, for a moment, I thought this was a Sling Blade 2 direct-to-video release.

Hey guys. My first post and I hope it saves you money. Amazon is running an ABC TV Show promotion similar to the $10 off at BB using coupons.

Although only 2 shows are in BD format, there are good deals to be had on the other format (such as the latest seasons of Castle, Once Upon a Time, Private Practice, etc. some of which are already 50% off due to Amazon price matching BB's ad this week). Cheers!

It's not exactly the same since the Amazon deal requires you to buy 2 sets to save $10.

As long as they match the stores, free shipping with Prime and no tax will keep me ordering from Amazon.

Re: Amazon Blu-ray Discounts and Deals Thread #27

given that this is a 'Amazon BD discounts and deals' thread, do you think we can ever get back to topic about a deal posting instead of this opining on whether you will shop Amazon or not ? Quite frankly, why should anyone give a damn as to who will buy on Amazon or not ? Its a statutory requirement that they collect sales tax from CA and so they will - the policy won't change. Whether this will change your policy towards shopping with them is not relevant to this thread - perhaps someone can create a new 'Will you shop on Amazon.com ?' thread and take all this discussion there.

Bam! Done.

Amazon sales tax discussion

(...although in non-sales-tax chatter, I do agree that at least as far as prices of new releases go, Amazon has gotten to be a follower rather than a leader.)

Was Amazon ever a leader in new release prices? For some years the big deal with Amazon was the 30 day price guarantee. Then they reduced that to the pre-order price guarantee that one would get the lowest price up through release day. Since they match several of the big retailers that usually means that Amazon new release prices will match the lowest of the big stores they consider their main competition.

With Amazon's market clout they don't really have to do better than that to scoop up a lot of business. Any serious bargain shopper knows that in a year or two most new releases will be available for a lot less than the lowest release week price. So, it depends on whether or not one is patient when it comes to getting a good deal.

I am hopeful that we will see the usual slate of good deals around Black Friday. Just marking time until then (but there isn't all that much I'd rather own, as opposed to "Netflix").
