Re: Amazon Blu-ray Discounts and Deals Thread #27
No one squeezes every possible bleeding dime out of a long-released TV series like Paramount does with the various Star Trek shows in the US. That's why the DVD issues still go "on sale" at around $40 per, years after their release. (In the UK they're half that, give or take, every day.) And it's why I just own one series--Voyager, which I managed to obtain at about half the rip off "on sale" cost. Their approach to Blu Ray is perfectly consistent.

To add to the Criterion talk, Seven Samurai dropped $10 to $24.99. That's a new Amazon low.

What's the difference between the Alien Anthology UK version and the one being offered by Amazon today? Do I need to upgrade my UK version?

Noooooooooooooooooo. Seriously, your UK version if it is the same one as mine is just peachy. Has the same features and everything, just a different case. All the sale is today is the fact that the US version finally caught up (well mostly) in pricing to the UK version.

Some people on SD are getting Amazon to do a price adjustment on the Alien Anthology because on the product page, it states that you can get 70% off as part of the Gold Box deal (not 63% as it is currently). Thus, some people have been getting it for $24. Depends on the CS rep that you get.

OK, AFTER reading this post, I decided to order it and ask for the difference back. I was shot down. (this past weekend has been expensive or this would have been a no-brainer) So I called and CS said he couldn't apply it to my order, but gave me a $10 GC. I requested a cancel on my transaction (which entered the shipping stage) and got it.
19.99 shipped. BF in May.
It always pays to carefully read these boards.
BTW, I ordered the Battle Royale yesterday and an email from Amazon promised me the digibook. So if I don't get it, it's there dime to ship it back.

Please be advised this product has two different versions of packaging, however the discs are all identical in content.
Surprised they don't just offer the non-digibook version, because few people would complain about getting a digibook if they thought they were getting the normal BD case version.

Because it might impact sales if they did it that way. The number of extra sales they will generate from customers hoping for the digibook is greater than the few returns they will have to deal with. Amazon is very slow to change the descriptions on their media pages.

Amazon UK has the Jurassic Park BD Trilogy for about $21 shipped to the US, and it's region free. Just ordered one.

Re: Amazon Blu-ray Discounts and Deals Thread #27
I see that nobody is talking about the John Carter 3D Blu-Ray set at Amazon coming out on Tuesday.
Usually by Thursday night Amazon has PM'd Target or BB for the upcoming week so that after the $5 preorder coupon the price works out the same (except for tax), but this time it's looking like Amazon isn't going to PM Target at $24.99 before coupon... at least not soon enough that I can keep the preorder.
Do people think I can safely wait until Friday mid-day in hopes Amazon will drop the price to $24.99 before Amazon puts this into Shipping Soon and tells me they can't cancel it, or should I cancel my preorder tonight (thereby guaranteeing they PM to $24.99 on Friday as Murphy's Law dictates)?
I'd rather use Amazon just because I'm trying to use up a bunch of credit there, but I'm not going to pay $5 more than Target for this. I wonder how many copies Target will get on Tuesday... my guess would be 4 to 10 of the 3D version. At least with Amazon you also know you aren't going to find empty shelves like you would Tuesday afternoon/evening at Target on a low popularity release (such as Studio Ghibli BDs).
