Went ahead and ordered The Killing and Salo. Used a 10% off coupon and the 8% cashback.
Maybe I'll try for 12 Angry Men if the overlap works. Otherwise I'll get the three I wanted at the next sale.

It's really hard to say due to all the variables (list price, possible future coupons, finding that "coupon friendly" cashier, as well as whether or not you want to deal with going into the store for an additional 10% off).
To get the absolute best price, you must be a member so you get 10% off on in store transactions.
For $39.99 titles, you want to purchase them one at a time, in store for ~$14.50 each using a 20% off coupon each time. If you want to save some time and effort and your cashier will stack coupons, you can purchase 3 in one transaction and use a 20% off coupon and a $5 off $50 coupon to bring it to ~$16 per film.
For $49.99 titles, use a $8 off $40 (list price) coupon to get the title for $14.50.
You can also find some other combinations of $29.99, $39.99, and $49.99 titles to maximize the $5 off $50 coupon.
Box Sets, you're usually going to be best off using whatever the highest % off coupon is at the time.
Right now, in order to use the 20% off coupon, you must have an American Express card but I would feel that another coupon will make itself available at some point during the sale that will be at least 20% or better.

Got The Killing with a Gift Card and my membership. I'll be planning my next round later, but it will be much much smaller than next year, and will utilize mostly gift cards. But that American Express thing knocks the price down a bit too...
Currently want:
High and Low (upgrade, I've seen the older DVD, then bought and didn't see the remastered DVD)
Kiss Me Deadly (heard this is good, right?)
both Chaplins
Possibly Les Cousins and the other movie

I picked up:
Carlos
Dazed and Confused
Salo
The Phantom Carriage
Identification of a Woman
The Island of Lost Souls
I split these up into two purchases and used 5 off 50 coupons along with out 10% membership discount on each one. I might grab 1 or 2 more before this is over but I don't think I can come close to the 16 or so I bought last time.

You can get them online using the 20% code, but at $15.99 9and tax) for the common $39.99 Criterions. This code can be used multiple times, but after the first order you have to sign out of your account, add the Disc and Code to the cart, then sign in to your account and order. This workaround has been around for the last couple non Criterion sales, but it can be a pain to order 10-12 individually shipped discs
If you far away from BN or would rather pay the extra 1.50 to avoid the coupon roulette or Manager issues this isn't a bad idea. My closest BN's are minimum 100 mile round trip so I'd have be able to buy at least 7-8 discs to break even just in gas money. Some of my "local" stores have been decent about coupons, but depending on the clerk sometimes I can make multiple split transactions, sometimes I can use 2 unrelated coupons in a single transaction, and one of the stores will limit one purchase daily with a coupon (managers discretion apparently).

This great thread has it all.

I don't think we can post the cashback link.
For cash back,do a search for "cashback sites" its the one that starts with
"Eb...."
I have been using them for over 6 months.I guess I should read all the fine print...but im lazy when it comes to these kind of things.

First order - picked up Black Moon for $16.95 with tax online with 20% off coupon and free member shipping - paying an extra $1.50 to avoid the coupon awkwardness in store for this order...

It's just The Island of Lost Souls for me this time round. I did jump on the SACD Living Stereo sale they have going on too in the classical department and got 19 of those.

Funny thing, the pre-orders no longer work yet 12 Angry Men remains prominently featured on the sale page.

Nice deal - thanks OP and the coupon thread people! I used the additional 10% off coupon and ordered The Killing, Great Dictator, My Life as a Dog, Life During Wartime, Solaris, Night of the Hunter, Paths of Glory, Days of Heaven, 400 Blows, Dazed and Confused and Robinson Crusoe on Mars, as well as American Graffiti which was priced lowest at BN according to dvdpricesearch. Chase promises me 10% cashback/points in addition to the 1% I normally get, but I won't believe it until I see it on the statement.

BR's of The Killing, Orpheus and 3 Women for me this time. Would have liked to have gotten more, but between paying off my credit card for last month, bills and the upcoming onslaught (Black Friday, Steam November sale, buying Xmas presents, buying food for Thanksgiving, etc.), I will hold off for the sake of my wallet.
God I hate November.

I'm pretty sure the Blu-Ray of 400 Blows I bought in store during the last sale in July was a keepcase. I'd have to double check when I get home though.
