Wait a minute. Did you say after using the coupons 11 times you had to run and exit through the gift shop?

^ Not sure if you're kidding but *just* in case you're not I was referring to two Studio Canal BDs that were marked at 50% off even though they're not Criterions: (1) Ran and (2) Exit Through the Gift Shop

Re: B&N 50% Criterion sale on blu-rays now live!

I just wanted to post that I got the BEST DEAL EVER! And I MEAN EVER!

I dare anyone to beat my deal.

After spending hours today going to three different Barnes N' Noble stores around my town (Pittsburgh), I ended up buying two Criterion Blu-Rays for a grand total of $20! Each was $10! $10! The cashier really put his job on the line by using my "$8 off Blu-Ray" coupon for both of the films I bought!

As it says on my receipt:

Criterion Collection: Red Desert
(1 @ 39.99) PROMO New Price
(1 @ 20.00) Member Card 10% (2.00)
(1 @ 18.00) MBR Item Cpn $ (8.00)
(1 @ 10.00) 10.00

Criterion Collection: Gomorrah
(1 @ 39.99) PROMO New Price
(1 @ 20.00) Member Card 10% (2.00)
(1 @ 18.00) MBR Item Cpn $ (8.00)
(1 @ 10.00) 10.00

Subtotal: 20.00
Sales Tax: 1.40
Total: 21.40

I can't believe he made that $8 off coupon work! Now I wish I could have gotten a steal like this for the other nine Blu-Rays I had bought earlier in the day. I ended up using the 20% off coupon for all of those individually but the average cost for each was about $15 or so (with all discounts + tax). The previous cashiers tried the "$8 off" and it only works for anything $40 or more ($39.99 doesn't seem to count apparently since it is conveniently one penny shy).

After all that was said and done for the past 3 days, these are all the Criterion Blu-Ray films I bought since the 50% sale began:

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Cul de Sac
Walkabout
Mystery Train
Dazed and Confused
Days Of Heaven
Wings Of Desire
Naked
Paths of Glory
Gimme Shelter
The Great Dictator
The Seventh Seal
The Thin Red Line
Paris, Texas
Carlos
Gomorrah
Red Desert
Pierrot le Fou

^^^Congrats on your deal but that has to be the longest first post I have ever seen. Also, congrats on typing all of that out.

Re: B&N 50% Criterion sale on blu-rays now live!

So far I picked up 7 Criterion Blu-rays during the sale and haven't bought a single one at BN.

I picked up Identification of a Woman and Moment of Truth (pre-order) for $19.99 or so each on Amazon (Gift Card) and then had Best Buy match BN's $19.99 price for Phantom Carriage, Dazed and Confused, The Killing, My Life as a Dog, and Something Wild ($1.34 out of pocket after gift card usage).

Will probably grab some discs from BN and actually not use gift cards later on using a discount code. I definitely want Cul de Sac and Rules of the Game.

Re: B&N 50% Criterion sale on blu-rays now live!

We watched My Life as a Dog just an hour or so ago and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for suggestions. It is a little offbeat in my opinon but damn if it doesn't captivate your mind and bring back memories of being a kid. I actually just bought it earlier today using the 20% off coupon and our 10% member discount. It came out to 14.40 plus tax.

What was their reasoning? I got shot down on the 8 dollar coupon for titles over 40 before the sale price but haven't been shot down for either the 5 off 50 or the recent 20% off?

The cashier in the movie section said that it wouldn't scan and that he had never seen that coupon before, so he flat out denied it. I went to the head manager and she said that their coupons don't have "letter and number codes" and said that it looked more like an online coupon. I pointed out to her that the coupon said it wasn't for use on their website, only instore and only for that weekend through the end of the business day on Sunday. I said that it was emailed to me for having been a Borders customer. She took it and went to go "investigate" further. Came back 10 minutes later and said that I could use it on anything in the store except the Criterion sale because they were already discounted enough. I was tired of waiting and arguing with them, so I just left.

That's quite an annoying first post. Yes, it's a good deal for sure but hardly the best. I got The Man From Uncle: Complete Series for .49 cents a few months back. It's currently $112 on Amazon. Stick around and pay attention and you might find some better deals than the one you got today.

I did not mean to be annoying as a first time user on this forum BUT I wanted to clarify that my "best deal ever" was only intended as the "best Criterion Collection deal ever" as "The Man from Uncle" is not a Criterion release. Great deal though in general so I congratulate you. If anyone can find a better Criterion deal than 75% off a brand new Blue-Ray, I am all ears.

Re: B&N 50% Criterion sale on blu-rays now live!

Picked up the following blu-ray's so far;
#1;
- Four Feathers, The
- Identification of a Woman
- Le Beau Serge
- Les Cousins

#2;
- Dazed and Confused
- Harakiri
- Kuroneko
- Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom (my 100th Criterion blu-ray btw)

Almost done, just need the blu's for Fanny and Alexander, Three Colors Trilogy and Rules of the Game, which will be promptly picked up over the coming weeks. This sale has not been as destructive as sales past.

Did Cronos and a cheapie blu-ray title on mail order to finish off my Criterion pickings for this sale. I kept saying I was going to hold off on that one, but with a coupon it is hard to say no.

Thought I was only going to get the one I bought online, but I was actually near a store yesterday so I picked up three more. I'm not a member, but I was allowed to use the AMEX coupon twice. I didn't push it. I think I'm done until the next one.

The Killing 15.99
Dazed and Confused 15.99
Amarcord 16.99
Paths of Glory 15.99

So far I got:

Kuroneko
Harakiri

Warped World of Koreyoshi Kurahara

All using $8 off coupons.

I just need La Regle du jeu and Three Colors Trilogy, and I'm done until June.

Edit: Damn you, Rushmore, coming out one day after the sale ends!

I was thinking the same thing! I remember when I first joined...I was definitely beat down a few times. It must be mandatory freshman hazing...I'm thinking Dazed & Confused style.

I wish they would accept the 8 off 40 coupons around here to get Fanny and Alexander. I want to pick that up tomorrow but definitely want to save more money on it with Harry Potter, Rush and a few games coming out this week as well.

Oh I believe JWSTL always seems to relish shooting someone down by listing a better BEST deal. That's why I always issue him a hearty hand clasp for his meritorious efforts to secure and self-report his constant topping best deals. He wins!

Re: B&N 50% Criterion sale on blu-rays now live!

This past sale has been amazing. I've gotten the $8 off coupon to work 30 times (25 on $39.99 titles and 2 times on $29.99).

How many people have all of the Criterion blus? I'm 8 away myself (not counting tomorrow's). Luckily I already have the few OOPs, so snagging the rest should be easy.

You must have me mistaken for someone else as I rarely post the details of my purchases. As someone noted, I was just messing with the new guy.

There might be a new 25% off coming this week so if your local store won't accept the $8 you might wait a few days and see if the 25% off shows up.
