How is this show in comparison to the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime? I just watched that recently, and I'm not sure if I'm up for another telling of the same basic premise.

I have enjoyed both presentations, but I do give the edge to Brotherhood. There is also a noticeable increase in production quality for Brotherhood. It's hiighly recommended, but you might want to wait for the inevitable Complete Series set(usually a much better deal than buying the individual sets).

From what I could tell, the Brotherhood version of this storyline takes a sharp divergence after an early point and shoots off into a different direction. I've only watched the first set, but it's close enough where I'm going to have to wait for a LOWER price point. Also sets 1 - 3 are on Netflix...

I've watched both, well still have part 5 of brotherhood to watch. While the original is good still well worth watching. Brotherhood nearly blows it out of the water. A larger, epic story, more characters, and some of the characters you already know are better, also this looks great on hd. As for the price it's 60% off, I got the first two a little cheaper but who knows how long you'll have to wait for that. Oh, I almost forgot the first part follows the same storyline as the first season of the original only at a brisker pace, after that it goes off in it's own direction.
