Kind of wish I didn't order at WB Shop, it's a similar price but I wouldn't have paid tax and would have gotten 3X points on my Amazon card. Oh well.

$23.33/movie doesn't seem like much of a deal to me (yeah, yeah, long run time, special features, etc.; it's still one movie). Maybe @ $16.99/movie... maybe.

Yeah, I know. But these are a couple of members of my family's favorite movies, so waiting six months to save another $25 doesn't seem worth it. Anything to keep the peace. Plus I'll get a little more for my DVD versions now than I will in 6 months when the market is flooded with them, so it's even less of a difference.

I'm with you. I already own the theatrical set on Blu-ray. Since Back to the Future just bottomed out at $15, I think that it's a safe bet that this set will hit the $30 price point in the near future.

Re: LOTR: EE for $69.99 at Amazon
Although I'm certain it will be discounted more than the Star Wars and (possibly) Superman sets for Black Friday... I don't know that it'll be anywhere close to what we had for the Theatrical trilogy. I don't see the EE set going for $8.
But seriously, I think the whole reason that the Theatrical Blu's were discounted so highly was that, even though the Extended Blu's had yet to be announced, a lot of people were more interested in the Extended discs.
I just still can't get over how stupid the designers of that Black Friday ad were, though... how do you mess up that badly!? That ad is also the reason I got the Ultimate Edition (DVD unfortunately) of Harry Potter 3 for $6... or something ridiculous like that.

Being a designer myself, most of the time it is not our fault, we just layout the pages. Usually the proofs of anything get reviewed multiple times by the marketing team before they go to press. If there are any edits they go back to the designer. I have never been on a job where a proof does not need to be signed off by a marketing manger before they print. They must have just missed this.

I'm counting on that too, but I'm afraid $40 will probably be the best price we'll see this year (BF). Maybe $30-ish sometime next year. I remember how some people were going hyper over BTTF when Newegg had it for $40 on release week, and I held out for $25 at Amazon on BF only to see it for $15 at Target (or $10 at Best Buy with coupon). While I don't think the LOTR EE BD set will ever drop below $20, $30 does seem like a reasonable price point for 3 movies... I might stretch to $35 depending on my mood at the time, but $40 is absolute tops. I could've preordered this set for $48-ish + tax at B&N earlier this year if I wanted it that bad, but couldn't get off my lazy-I-hate-driving behind to go there. The Star Wars 1-6 BD set which I did preorder from B&N (and I sure hope I actually get it) seems like a better value at $48-ish for 6 vs. 3 movies. So I'm glad some people like $70 for 3 movies, but it seems overpriced by double to me.

I usually would never pay this much for Blu-rays, but this is an exception because it's an early anniversary present for my wife, who is a HUGE LOTR fan.

Re: LOTR: EE for $69.99 at Amazon
While I appreciate the desire to score a good deal, some of these posts border on delusional. A FIFTEEN (15) DISC set should only cost $30? They're already cheaper than the original EEs were - I bought all three for $25 ea. on release week - and they have an extra disc that the old sets didn't have, not to mention two 50GB discs of movie goodness? I'll be waiting for BF sales, too, but that's just because I've got such a monumental backlog of stuff that I can wait for something that's pretty much just going on a shelf.

The original trilogy EE's were released in 2002, 2003, and 2004. There was a lot more disposable income for a lot more people back then. That, and many people who are looking to buy the trilogy on Blu Ray, already have all the extras on the DVDs.

Re: LOTR: EE for $69.99 at Amazon
I doubt it will happen though. When the inevitable separate releases occur, they will probably be the same five-disc configurations found in the box. No DVD or BD release of these films has come without special features of some sort. Even the theatrical BDs carried over the extras from the two-disc theatrical DVD sets.
As for the boxed set, I agree that we probably won't see it at $30 anytime soon (unless sales are very disappointing). But in the neighborhood of $40 by Black Friday I think is very likely.

Re: LOTR: EE for $69.99 at Amazon
It would be nice if they offered the movies alone since the Appendices discs are just the same DVDs we've had all along. However, the 5th disc of documentary stuff I don't have. I've never bought any of the theatrical cuts.
