Wow, the posts are chaos! It is going to be mass confusion today I can tell already. I would expect nothing less though.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Just got back. I was the only person in the store the entire time I was there (other than the one employee). I didn't have to say a thing about the sale and the promotion rang up correctly. There were quite a few titles that were marked higher than they rang up, so you might want to keep an eye on what people post in here so you know what should be included in the sale. I was a little disappointed in the selection but managed to pick up 20 titles for $80+tax.

Assassination of Jesse James
Zombieland
Hot Rod
JFK
X Files 2
Public Enemies
500 Days of Summer
City Island
The Reader
Quantum of Solace
Paranormal Activity
Red Cliff I
Red Cliff II
Shutter Island
Valkyrie
Saw VI
Other Boleyn Girl
Messenger
Ghost Writer
Fools Gold

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

I went in to two stores today and they said the sale was going on. I ended up grabbing a total of 25 titles between the two. I'll check back next week for marked down titles.

EDIT: In looking through what I bought and switching out to blu-ray cases, I noticed a couple of the covers were a little too dinged up for my tastes. I called up the store and they said they would be happy to exchange them for me, or to swap out if they didn't have another copy. The store is 4.5 miles away. What should I do?

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

The closest Blockbuster is like an hour and a half away now, and at $4+ gal. for gas I don't think I'll even bother participating even though $4 BLU-RAYS sound good. Anyone know where one could get cheap Blu-ray cases for them, since I imagine their used discs come in those bulky DVD cases??

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Guess I'll go ahead and post my haul from the two stores. I made the return trip to exchange some because some covers were damaged, and some only had the 1st disc, and therefore I had to make some substitutes from my original purchase. Anyways, here it is:

Boondock Saints II
Shutter Island
Wolverine
GI Joe
Indiana Jones
Repo Men
Yes Man
The Reaping
Taken
Beerfest
Brothers Bloom
Chocolate
Friday the 13th (Remake)
Starship Troopers
District 13: Ultimatum
Pirate Radio
Public Enemies
Bolt
No Country for Old Men
Beetlejuice
The Ruins
Surrogates
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus
Valkyrie
Blood Diamond

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Just back. My Blockbuster had a separate table with the advertising 5 Blu for $20, with a limited selection on the table. The small print on the ad stated anything under $9.99 qualified, so I headed off to the main racks of previously viewed Blu-ray.

My haul:

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs
Night at the Museum: Battle of Smithsonian
Scott Pilgrim vs the World
Green zone
Transformers
The Ghost Writer
Dracula
Babylon AD
2012
Letter to Juliet

I put back a good number of the arty films, not due to budget, but due to streaming. Netflix is making it harder and harder to justify buying any DVD no matter how low the price.

Put down:

A single man
Public enemies
A serious man
Julia and Julia

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Ended up getting between 2 stores the following. The 1st store I went to she was on top of it and knew exactly what was going on and that was right when the y opened. The other store i called up just to confirm they were still in business as I was never there before. On the phone he was all like really the sale starts today, he thought it was Friday. Said he would call his manager just to confirm. Too funny.

Red Cliff Part 1
Red Cliff Part 2
Planet 51
Tropic Thunder
The Karate Kid
Get Smart
GI Joe
Brothers Bloom
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Form Paris with Love

Tommy Boy
Deliverance
This is It
Ponyo
Liscence to Wed

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

The first BB said the sale doesn't start until Friday but I asked him if he could scan it to make sure. He said it wouldn't work so I just played it safe and had him keep the 5 BRs I wanted behind the counter until Friday. I went to another BB after that and when I walked in, the girl said there was a 5 for $20 sale so I just picked up another set of 5 BRs (the selection was really different). Here's what I got and I'll just list the other 5 BRs of what I will buy on Friday (unless they have new titles to sell):

Red Cliff (parts 1 and 2)
Twilight: New Moon
Eyes Wide Shut
Public Enemies

Beetlejuice
Twilight
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Up in the Air
Quantum of Solace

NOTE: One of my BBs had Twilight New Moon, which I haven't seen listed here yet. Just wanted to point that out.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Novato, CA Blockbuster is asking for the "password" so make sure if you are going there that you remember it

The Assistant Manager working said the sale would be honored early for those who mention the password and that the Advertised Sale (to the public) would start on the 5/20. Even showed me the flyer. So nothing new there, just thought I'd mention it.

To my surprise, everything was re-tagged (really impressed). Almost 99% of the PPV BDs I saw were $9.99 or less. I didn't find 10 (as I originally planned), but hopefully some more get marked down sometime during this sale.

Really glad I stopped by relatively early, as a lot of the things I picked up were the only ones on the shelf.

Picked up:

44 Inch Chest
Up In The Air
Rachel Getting Married
Friday The 13th: Uncut (1980)
Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Went in and mentioned that I read about the sale on the internet and he told me the standard 'doesn't start until Friday but those that read about it on the internet' had the opportunity to get in on the sale today.

I wanted to pick up Casino and Goodfellas but they had neither and the one I really wanted (500 Days of Summer) was not on the table. But he had a copy behind the counter.

There are a lot of 6.99 titles that he said qualified since they were under 9.99 - I remember The Wrestler, District 9 and The Fugitive.

Saw one copy of How to Train Your Dragon but it was 12.99 and several of Date Night but they were 16.99!

I got:

(500) Days of Summer
Eyes Wide Shut
JFK
Red Cliff Part I
Red Cliff Part II

I would've loved to find Beetlejuice too.

Thanks to the OP for the thread.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

The most depressing thing is to see how many titles I'd paid $10-$15 for not that long ago.

Picked up from store near work:
* Red Cliff Pt. I & II
* District B13 Ultimatum
* Disturbia
* Lonesome Dove
* Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist (Kat Dennings is cute; Michael Cera is a pitiful girl)
* The Truman Show
* 17 Again (surprisingly good; don't let Zac Ephron scare you off)
* Deliverance
* The Hurt Locker

From store near home:
* The Lost Boys
* Ponyo
* The Replacement Killers
* The Kite Runner
* Dorian Gray

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Forgot to mention that She's Out Of My League and The Wolfman (2010) were both marked $9.99 at my local store.

While buying some BDs today I saw a good number of stacks of BDs behind the counter, but I didn't ask if they were all for the $9.99 sale. Either way the store isn't far from where I live, so I can always go back.

At the store I went to the guy had about three stacks back behind the counter (how I got 500 days of summer), but not all of them were 9.99 here. I asked about Fantastic Mr. Fox and Where the Wild Things Are and they were both 12.99.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Stopped by BB earlier today. Decided to check out what titles were available before asking about the sale. Didn't see too many titles that I either did not already have or just did not want. I could have put together maybe 5 titles total that I was interested in(Red Cliff 1 & 2, Truman Show, Angels & Demons, and throw in something else).

Decided to then go ask about the sale and the cashier said it did not start until friday. When I mentioned that I heard that it started today she replied "well it doesn't start here 'til friday".

No biggie, I will probably try another store later this week just to see if they have anything different.

You should have just brought your blu-rays to the counter and had the register do the work. Don't even bother asking the employees about the sale.

Thanks for the heads up!

I'll have to take a look at the stacks behind the counter, once I've looked at what everyone here is finding at their stores

Trade in some crappy dvds and get it for $4.95 if you find $35 worth of stuff. Wasn't hard for me to do.

Damn, I should have done that. Whatever. I had them keep my stack behind the counter for Friday so I'll get them either way.
