Watched this last night. They could have stuck a DVD inside a Blu-ray case for all I know. What a horrific looking disc. Easily one of the worst of the format. The audio (I realize some of it is silent on purpose) is really bad as well. Just be warned. Great film, shitty Blu-ray.

Same here, but I just ordered Much Ado anyway. Was going to wait on this one, but for $8.99 shipped, I'll take a chance. Might take a while to come down to that price elsewhere.

Never ordered from these people before. Pretty glitchy web site. First tried to use Google checkout, as I didn't want to set up a new account, but it wouldn't give me the free shipping although it did give the 10% discount. Then I signed up with the site, but had to enter the info twice before it gave the discount (although it did give free shipping). Weird.

Gizmo, what is the problem with Leaving Las Vegas? Just a subpar transfer from an old-looking master or is it a big trip to DNR-ville?

For anyone interested, check the link above. There's a bunch more $9.99 titles there, aside from the ones at the top of this thread. The only one I've seen personally is Last Tango in Paris, and that is actually a pretty substantial upgrade from the all-but-unwatchable DVD.

Leaving Las Vegas was shot on Super 16mm for a deliberately gritty look. It's kinda like buying Paranormal Activity or Open Water on BD when they were shot on camcorders.

Picked up Lars and the Real Girl. I've seen it broadcast on one of the movie HD channels, and it looks pretty phenomenal for an indie film. I'd be shocked if the blu-ray wasn't a significant upgrade over the dvd.

Just wanted to follow up on this since my copy came Thursday, only two days after shipping. Watched it last night. Overall, I'm very pleased with it. A few shots look pretty soft, but overall the detail is pretty great. Skin textures look natural, pores are visible, hairs are distinct...not a big clumpy mess. Colors really pop...I compared with the DVD and the BD looks much warmer. I saw this in the theatre, but we're talking eighteen years ago so I wouldn't trust to compare between the theatrical viewing and the disc.

Sound is DTS-HD MA two-channel, and it's perfectly fine. This is Shakespeare and it's all about the dialogue so I don't miss a 5.1 mix. Plus, the music score sounds good and you can really hear the sounds of the Italian countryside, right down to insects in the grass. I have to say I'm getting spoiled with BD's lossless audio. I pop in a DVD immediately after and boy is the difference obvious. DVDs sound good but like somebody tossed a towel over the speakers.

Minor gripe: the print used isn't pristine. It doesn't look really dirty, but there are nicks and white spots, and they pop up intermittently throughout the running time. I was watching on a small screen so it didn't hamper my enjoyment of the film, but it might bother you big screeners out there.

Like other budget MGM titles, there's no main menu, just a popup. Scene selections, languages, and the two measly extras from the MGM DVD (EPK and trailer). The movie starts again automatically after it's over.

I love the film so this was definitely worth $9 to me.

Haven't seen much commentary on this title elsewhere, so there's my $0.02.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that although this movie is under two hours and has sparse extras, this disc is a BD 50.
