Re: Best Buy Blu Prices 3/27 - 4/2 - Planet Earth $24.99

I decided I was going to try to get the Planet Earth BD for $24.99 from my favorite store BB, so I tried to do an in-store pickup and found that option is disabled. So, this is an in-store only deal with no in-store pickup?

BB probably has only a handful of copies and will be out of stock today long before I get there Monday morning (as I'm not spending $5 of gas just to make a special trip to get it today).

So, do people recall seeing the BBC version of Planet Earth BD at either Target or Walmart recently for a PM?

I think this is going to be a non-deal for me because BB will probably be out of stock today, Fry's Electronics always calls to check inventory so they won't PM the deal, Amazon will notice BB out of stock online for the rest of the week and probably won't match it, and Target and Walmart probably don't even carry the Attenborough version and if they do the few copies they get for the week are probably already gone. Yeah, I'm cynical, but that's because the motto of most B&M stores in my area is "Sorry, we're out of stock" followed by a close "Sorry, we don't carry that title". And then people wonder why Amazon gets so much business... probably because they are just about the only place that carries any real selection and they are usually cheaper than B&M.

Now if I didn't already have Planet Earth on HD-DVD, I might be willing to go to BB today, but I predict my stubbornness not to go out today will make this deal moot for me the rest of the week.

Try using www.milo.com to locate it in your area.

Never heard of that site before, but it seems pretty cool. Thanks!

Unfortunately, it shows Fry's Electronics (out of stock... surprise surprise as Gomer Pyle would say), Target (online only), and Barnes & Noble (who doesn't pricematch). It doesn't mention BB who probably has it right now, but not for long. So it's a cool tool but not sufficient.

So pretty much it's either BB or maybe Walmart. Walmart.com doesn't say if it's in stock in stores... it just offers free ship to store which is of no use because you can't PM online.

I think i will plan on price matching Targets $24.99 Tangled 3D Blu on Tuesday, then using the coupon to get it for $19.99 at Best Buy with a free plush, instead of a free book at Target. Hopefully all goes well.

Any reason why the ad has Black Swan @ $22.99 and the site has it at $19.99?

Is there a new version of Planet Earth out? The only one I saw had 1080i video and Dolby Digital for the audio.

the BBC packaging is misprinted with the 1080i info (it is 1080p)
can't answer your question on the audio, pretty sure all versions have the same audio

The BBC version of Planet Earth I saw was 1080p. Life on the other hand said 1080i.

Shockingly my Walmart had the Attenborough Planet Earth BD in stock, and though it took a while to call over a manager for an override, it was no problem. I'm always happy whenever I don't have to go to BB. When I saw it there I almost exclaimed "wow, Walmart actually has something I'm looking for in stock... how unusual!"

No idea, they'll price match their website though. You're better off going to target to get their exclusive combo pack though if you have one close. It's only 19.99

True, they do open earlier as well so I can stop by before work.

The only reason I hesitate is because Target in general puts everything in security cases. I really like the Slipcover that I saw posted in the BD forums and it's usually 50/50 on getting one that isn't smashed.

Forgive me for asking, but why wouldn't you just order Planet Earth from Amazon.uk? It's $23 or so shipped right now, no tax and has a whole extra disc? I just ordered mine there. No store hunting, or paying extra required...

Instant gratification (plus I'd imagine if you need to return it for whatever reasons that would be more hassle as well).

Someone prefers Walmart over Best Buy?

Yes. It has never been a secret that BB is my least favorite of all B&M stores due to their steadfast refusal to take any coupons at most stores in my area, plus they are 5 miles away. Before BB Circuit City was my least favorite store for different reasons. Walmart is very near me and I rarely have trouble using coupons or PM'ing there. My problem with them is their poor inventory (not carrying titles or being OOS) and not being able to find employees when I need them (and when I do they usually don't know the product they sell). Sadly, that's true of most stores, but at least Target employees come within 1 minute when you page them and they try to look things up on the scanner. A Walmart employee is hard to find, and they usually just say they don't know and they can't look it up and then disappear.

Re: Best Buy Blu Prices 3/27 - 4/2 - Planet Earth $24.99

I grew up in a place where the closest store that even sold DVDs was 20 miles away, so complaining about a 5 mile drive seems a little ridiculous to me.

Quick back-of-the-envelope type of calculation:
way to/back from the store: 5 miles x2 = 10 miles
price/gallon: $4
car gets 20 miles/gallon: just wasted an extra $2 to get the disc.

Does anyone know if Life is the BBC or Oprah version?

The version of Life that I saw at Best Buy was the Oprah Winfrey version.

I would gladly pay $2 not to enter a Walmart let alone add that to their coffers.

Why do they make two different versions anyway? I actually thought Sigourney Weaver's narration was very good but I'm not sure why they'd go to the trouble of making a second one.
