Too bad this is for members only :(

My local borders still have some blu-rays left.
And the online prices suck - I've seen cheaper prices on all of them before.

Can use two coupons online. Still horrible prices for the items included. Got two Charades in the cart for $22 each. Bleah.

$19 each for the 2 Criterion BDs is not a "horrible price". Neither is $7 for 28 Days Later or 16.50 for The Sound of Music 3 disc (19.99 at Amazon).

Oh, ok :p Just saw the "membership only" on the coupon. Never shopped at Borders before. Even the going out of business sale wasn't good, so I never got to check out.

Well, when Barnes & Nobles have their criterion sale, it usually is that price. Also I got 28 Days Later for $6 and Sound of Music for $14 last year. I guess if you didn't buy it when they were on sale before, it is a saving. But those prices can happen at other stores.

I just expected better prices for "going out of business" sale. That's all.

The coupon states 50% off but in my cart it says "buy one BD and get another at 50% off" and that's the discount I'm seeing.

They aren't having a going out of business sale because they aren't going out of business.

It looks like the coupon is 50% off in-store and the code is B1G1 50% off.

Damn, you're all over the place. Membership is free. This is not a going out of business or store closing sale. If it was either of those, why would you need a coupon?

.............

I'm looking through my Amazon wish list and trying to find what would be worth buying, since the 50% will be off msrp (or higher). I wish this ran until 3/22 when Stand By Me comes out. It's msrp is only $25.

You do realize that hundreds of Borders stores are having "store closing" sales, right? The coupon isn't part of a "store closing" sale, but anyone going to a store that is in the process of closing will be in the middle of one, coupon or not. Given that the current discount at the closing stores is 40%-60%, the coupon could end up being meaningless.

And differentiating between "going out of business" and "store closing" is just a case of nit-picky semantics. Borders, the company, is not "going out of business". Many individual stores, however, are.

You can't use coupons at locations that are closing. This coupon is only for those locations that are staying open. Maybe this is what is confusing people.

Cool. Usually find a couple to pick up during these sales. Thanks.

This point needs to be stressed.

My nearby Borders locations are closing, and the ones staying open are further away. I'm not even sure if I've ever been to those. What I do know is that my nearest location, even long before Borders declared bankruptcy and the store was going to close, had virtually no DVDs or BD to speak of... maybe a few dozen total. So even if I could use the coupon or went to a non-closing Borders, if their BD selection was anything like my store there would be virtually no chance of finding anything I wanted (unless it was a new release).

Re: 50% off Blu-rays @ Borders

I was surprised that only one of their locations in my area is closing, and to be honest I'm surprised they put a store there in the first place. From my perspective, Borders is still an active retailer. Still, the timing on this isn't great and I'll probably pass. Thanks for the alert, though, OP; I rarely remember to check the Borders thread.

Yes, I'm very aware of all the store closings, but that is irrelevant to this thread. This thread is for the current 50% coupon and website offer. Coupons are not valid at closing stores and the website is not shut down.

No thanks, I hate it when the jack up the prices to put them on sale - they do this to catch the stupid consumer.

Shame on them - no wonder your doors are closing.

They never "jack up the prices" for a sale. The coupon is off list price, which never changes.

Some of those $7 Blu's are a good deal.

Thanks OP =)

Let me see if i can straighten some of this out...

I don't think animefan was talking about the coupon when he made this comment about the "going out of buisness" sale:

I think he was dismissing the "membership only" tag on the coupon, because he was unfamiliar with Borders membership policies (their chief competitor, of course, only has paid memberships), as he had never shopped there before, and even the "going out of buisness/store closing" which he had stopped in to check, weren't so good, so he has never bought anything from them.

Just to clarify, there are no $7 movies. It's buy one, get one for 50% off the list price. So, in order to maximize your deal you have to use a 33% off coupon. Which means, at best:

13.99 title
- 33%
-------------
$9.37

13.99 title
- 50%
-------------
$6.95

While $7 is a good price, $9.37 isn't. Also, I think I figured 28 Days Later is a pointless blu-ray so I didn't even consider it. See the DVDtalk review on the picture quality here. Last of all, if you order both or two copies of either criterion, it's $21 each (plus tax), unless you have a better coupon than the 33%.
