I have it. One thing I noticed about the BD is that the shadow detail is a lot better than the DVD (and this movie has quite a lot of shadows), but overall this is a pretty modest upgrade. Even a 100% faithful-to-the-source transfer on this one wouldn't exactly make demo material.

Prices on Warner titles have indeed been dropping like crazy in the last 36 hours or so.

Been waiting for Network to drop to $10. Great film. I was planning on going to BB tomorrow or Wed. to pick up the Bourne Trilogy, but Amazon decided to save me a trip.

I ordered it for $30.45 at Amazon three weeks ago. Do I have any shot at asking for a little rebate? No idea how to go about doing that.

probably not since you probably bought it from a marketplace seller, but I guess it usually never hurts to try.

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

For anyone interested, all of the $10.49/10.99 titles in today's update are available at Barnes and Noble's web site for $9.99 (possibly less if you get a coupon from the Barnes and Noble coupon thread).

I picked up Fly Away Home, A Passage to India, and several other Sony titles for $8.99 each with coupon a while back, and the prices are holding for now.

No-minimum free shipping if you're a B&N member; $25 minimum order otherwise.

Gandhi, however, seems stubbornly stuck around $15 (or higher).

You can always return it, and re-order it. Not sure it's worth the hassle for 5 bucks though...

Nope. If it were a day or two, maybe. Three weeks is well beyond Amazon's generosity.

Is the JP Trilogy a good price? I'm wondering if it will be in the $29.99 range sooner than later.

At this point, always assume come Black Friday it'll be at a good lower price.

It's going to be a very popular release. There will probably be serious competition between retailers when it comes out or shortly thereafter.

I'd be shocked if somebody isn't offering it for under $40 eventually. Amazon's price may well drop again too.

After seeing what happened with Back to the Future, I am wary of paying for any Blu-ray box set at a price that works out to more than $10 per film.

It will be lower closer to release day. October 25 is a long ways away, and I'm not going to tie up funds for it.

Basically I pre-order if I HAVE to have it when it comes out. Otherwise I wait for a drop, which is why I haven't bought Star Wars or LOTR.

Limited editions and/or digital copies sometimes compel me to the earlier purchase.

Yes, that is the golden rule for me too. Only if I can't wait and want to watch something immediately or it's a Disney release do I break the $10 rule and go up to $15. Even $10 is pushing it given the Blockbuster used BD sales. So the Jurassic Trilogy is not even on my purchase radar until it hits $30.

On another topic (since this is the Amazon thread), I did want to see Rango right away and preordered the BD for $24.99 - $5 coupon = $19.99 in hopes it would drop another $5. Its release date is on FRIDAY July 15th rather than Tuesday the 12th. I believe Borders had it listed for $19.99 and if there are any coupons at the time (and you happen to have a store near you still open), Borders could be cheaper. Long ago I emailed Amazon about Borders' Rango price, and they didn't lower the price.

I'm still hoping Amazon drops the price to $19.99, but it's not looking promising. Here's my question: what is the last day I dare wait to cancel my preorder for Rango to avoid it shipping (still have free 2-day shipping with Prime)? If my final cost isn't $15 or less, I want to cancel.

I'm going to assume the answer is Sunday night given that Amazon Tuesday releases can go into shipping soon on Thursday night. Perhaps Monday night but I don't want to risk it shipping.

Rango at Best Buy will be $19.99 - $5 Rango coupon, -$5 any blu-ray $14.99 or more coupon, = $9.99. The problem is that some stores or clerks will not accept the second coupon, but YMMV.

Pre-ordered Super. It's a dollar less than Wal-Mart with Amazon Prime and I get it on release day.
