Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

For National Geographic fans:

Looks like many of the single disc National Geographic titles are now in the $15-$17 range, not just the ones in lizard's post. By other standards, those are not great prices but these rarely go sub-$20, and a quick check on dvdpricesearch shows no other major retailers with prices that low. So I'm jumping on a few now: Africa's Lost Eden, American Serengeti, Big Sur, and Canyonlands.

I was sorely tempted by the Nat Geo BD box set "deal of the week" last week. Thirty-five bucks for six titles is an awesome deal, but couldn't pull the trigger as I'm just not interested in most of the titles in that set. Have Relentless Enemies on DVD, but I'm not really looking to upgrade that right now.

The kids' Christmas is over; now mine starts as I spend my gift cash.

Sorry you missed it but it was $18.49 around Black Friday on AMAZON. $25.99 is still an ok deal though.

Where are you finding this info? I'm sure you aren't scrolling through each title... are you?
Not sure what site he is using but there are many sites that use tracking software to keep up with the new price drops. I like this one on blu-ray.com: http://www.blu-ray.com/deals/?sortby=time Lightningdrops.com is good also but they have been down for the past week.

Yeah, its a nice release. I'm only holding off because I know I won't watch it yet.

FYI - A lot of people are reporting problems playing Twilight Zone Season One Disc 4 on their players.

Your post reminds me to mention that I mostly avoid listing travelogues, music videos, and things like that (I put in a Canyonlands one yesterday because it is in my "back yard", so to speak—Arches National Park is day trip distance for me). It is hard enough to list just the movie and TV stuff. (And, as I've said before, I've never heard of, much less seen, the vast majority of the titles I've been listing.)

If there are particular titles you are interested in, I suggest putting them in your cart and then "save for later". Each time you check your Amazon cart the price changes will be listed since you last checked. [Amazon turned off this price update feature for the week before Christmas but it is back now.]

Plus, those titles are more likely to be Gold Box selections.

I've been meaning to post links to various useful sites in the first post of this thread so that others can check them (and I can stop with the lists). Some of these have been suggested by numerous people over the last four threads. I list the earliest post of which I became aware. The ones I find most useful:

That link lists all recent price drops in order. The variant I prefer is this one: New Lowest Prices.

Another site, mentioned by several here, which is useful for checking price history is camelcamelcamel A Google search will come up with a number of other sites that also specialize in tracking Amazon prices. An advantage of camelcamelcamel, and other such sites, is that you can look up the price history for things other than DVDs/BDs, for example, a Blu-ray Disc player, CD, book, and so forth.

That should be enough resources to get people started.

I hope it's a prelude to a release like they did on DVD - with 1&2 in a box.

Might be a prelude to another version that will come out prior to #3 in 2012...

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

It looks like Amazon is matching Best Buy's $7.99 blu-rays. I had 2 in my cart (Crouching Tiger & Leon) and they both dropped to $7.99.

edit: exharrison...I can delete my post if you want.

Great minds seem to think and "wait down the prices" alike!! I was upset when i missed the 32.99 price so, I grabbed two 7.99 movies in the set @ BB. Will be returning both today!! Happy "going-broke-after-xmas" day to everyone! Does anyone know if Amazon is matching a B&M for X-men & Die hard collections?

Funny, the two $7.99 titles at Best Buy about which I notified Amazon (Ghost Rider and Bad Boys) haven't dropped, but it seems pretty much everything else has.
