Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

I absolutely love The New World, and think it's ponderous, beautiful, and kinda haunting. The cinematography is wonderful, the sound design deserved an Oscar, and its a rare film about American history that isn't preachy. Colin Farrell is fine, Christian Bale is great, and Q'orianka Kilcher is amazing. Malick at his best.

But then, some on these forums go apeshit over the Underworld movies, so there's really no accounting for taste.

Wait, are you saying the story in Underworld isn't an accurate portrayal of European historical events?

Of course not. I watch the Resident Evil movies for that.

Another one.

You = The New World lover = tasteful appreciation for the arts

others = non-New World Lover = tasteless fools that like Underworld films

Got it.

You mean that Pocahontas didn't looked like this in the movie? What a surprise.

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

In an effort to get this thread back on track, earlier today I ordered Frantic/Presumed Innocent 2-pack for $9.49. On the SD, Frantic was full screen, which helped my decision to upgrade.

I had the exact same experience with Fellowship of the Ring. Except for being in bed with your wife. Haven't seen New World though.

Yup, full screen on that old DVD, and not even open matte...cropped. Warner was funny like this...some of those early DVDs got OAR treatment and some did not, with no apparent logic. I dumped the Frantic disc after watching it once.

As I said earlier in the thread, even if you like just one of the films, for $9.49 this BD is a great deal. Well worth it to me to see the Polanski film in widescreen alone.

Frantic has the wrong english audio track, there is meticulous review on amazon addressing it, and a thread on HTF... I don't think Warner is going to correct it though.

Damn, I didn't know that. Well, the DVD was so bad that I'll stick with the BD, even with the partial French audio...

I was thankful for the person who pointed out that it was down to $9.49 because I'd been toying with it in my bestbuy cart. It's now sitting on my kitchen counter!

I didn't own Frantic but my copy of Presumed Innocent in dvd has never been unwrapped!

It might have been me. I posted it in the BB $12.99 thread on the 23rd.
So you're welcome!

I hate to interrupt the above discussion of movies (none of which I've ever seen) but here are today's New Lows:

Sacrifice (Pre-order) $15.99

Yes, not much going on at Amazon today...

I read that review, but only after watching the BD, and I never noticed a problem when watching the film. My DVD is long gone, and my understanding of French is pretty good, so maybe that's why.

No question, the original English audio should have been included. I'd still enthusiastically recommend the BD over the panned and scanned, compression artifact-riddled DVD.

You're not missing much in the video quality department. A pretty dingy-looking non-anamorphic transfer. Considering this title was probably not high on WB's priority list, the BD upgrade was a lot better than I expected. Enjoy.
