There are some pretty good deals this week, but I've also been thinking that I might just save my money as best as I can until Black Friday unless I find something I just can't refuse.

That's why I buy so few. I picked up a bunch this year due to the BB 5/20 sales but most of them are just rentals for me. Of course when i do buy one it is guaranteed to drop in price within 12 minutes of my purchase. You're welcome

Now at 32.49. DD has it as a DOTD for 33.26.

FWIW, the MSRP has dropped on this to 39.99, so I would expect this to be much cheaper in the future.

And the list-price did drop, but to $69.99, making it 47% off. I'm hoping it appears in my Gold Box tomorrow.

Just an FYI, looks like some (or all?) of tomorrow's lightning deals will be Criterion. Per the Amazon FB Movies & TV FB page:

Cinephiles and film geeks! Don't miss out on an awesome Criterion event starting tomorrow, 8/16 at 6am. We'll be featuring four 4-hour lightning deals of Criterion favorites, just in time for the new Kubrick release, "The Killing".

Yeah, just found this list on amazon's site. There's quite a few CC's I'd consider buying right now, but none of these are on that list. I've got the Darjeeling BD already, and I have Videodrome on DVD but don't know if I want to upgrade that. Charade is somewhat interesting; deals start in six minutes, so let's check out the prices...

The BN sales are cheaper? Looks like the exact price as the BN sale, 50% off. We just have extremely slim pickings for todays pseudo-sale.

I'm in for Charade, actually. I think my DVD might be the old non-anamorphic one.

A lot of people stack other coupons for the B&N sale which brings the price down even lower.

They are cheaper at B&N with a membership and/or coupons. Of course, there's no tax for most of us at Amazon which is nearly equal to the B&N member discount.

They may not be listed with the others but there are more Criterions at or near 50% off at Amazon. Here are a few:

Blow Out: 19.99
The Red Shoes: 19.99
White Material: 20.99
Fish Tank: 20.99
Modern Times: 20.99
Amarcord: 20.99
Topsy Turvy: 20.99
The Double Life of Veronique: 20.99
Au Revoir Les Enfants: 20.99

I was hoping they'd throw one of the new releases in there. Even if not, there's probably nine or ten older releases I'd consider if they were offered.

Oh well...I'm sure there are people in the market for the four titles they picked.

It would be cool if they'd do another sale like the one they had a few months ago, where a few dozen titles were on sale. Because, you know, I didn't buy enough at the B&N sale and need more.

I suppose it was a little too much to ask for one of the releases from after the B&N sale to be included in this.

Got a link? I can't find it for this price?

Edit: It wasn't in the treasure box link, but when I went to the product page, there was a link to the right for lightning deals, which didn't work. Further down the page was a link for Criterion deals which I clicked on and found the deal. It only gave me 14 minutes to checkout, so I guess the deal is over at 11AM CST.

Be careful ordering, the illustration of the DVD and blu-ray are very similar.

FWIW, the previous low for Charade (Criterion) at Amazon is $23.99, so the lightning deal is quite a bit less than that.

Still, $20 is too much for me even though I enjoyed the movie when I first saw it on a plane in the mid '60s. (How many in-flight movies does one still remember after so many years?)

Nice to see Lost Souls come down a couple of more dollars. I dunno, maybe I won't wait until the next B&N sale and go ahead and put the money for the pre-order. Considering the date, I could always cancel if something weird happened between now and October.
