Good riddance to those boxy TVs and VHS tapes. The ad is like a time capsule.

Ironic that the Nintendo 64 is $129.99 (which I bought back then), and I just bought a few minutes ago online a Nintendo Wii for $169.99. Makes me wonder what I'll be buying come 2019.

I'm pretty sure my family bought that Toshiba player, because we definitely received those specific five free movies and eight rentals at Hollywood Video. Might have been the reason the ad was saved, come to think of it.

I'm pretty sure my model was the 3109 (instead of the 2109). It was $300. I got those same 5 (crap) movies. Those were the days.

There are also sections featuring huge cell phones, portable CD players, those giant cabinets to house the boxy TVs, and of course computers with a hard drive of 13 GB. Oh and A Bug's Life is $17.99 on VHS.

I would hardly call the Fugitive a crap movie. Its a classic not mention it was nominated for 7 academy awards including best picture and winning best suporting actor for tommy lee jones.

But I will say that Michael is absolutely a crap movie. I finally saw it in 2007, when I was scraping the bottom of the barrel for something to see...awful.

OK true enough. I didn't even take note of what they were in that picture. I didn't get The Fugitive with my Toshiba though...

I got a stunning selection including Stepmom (can't remember the others), which I did notice in that ad and just assumed it was part of the get 5 free offer

Likewise.

My 3109 is still working flawlessly too.

Can you post the CDs? That'll be an even bigger kick than the movies!

I also bought that Toshiba player. Still have it even, although it never gets any use. I bought it a few months later than this add (and from 800.com), and I got a different set of 5 free movies (Only Lost in Space was the same, but it did include Stepmom - also featured in the ad). Oh the memories!
