I'm at my in-laws, one of their older TV's is still rockin' with that $20 Cinema7 remote control - it's sitting right here next to me.

The only people who own Lost In Space are people who got it free.

The best part of the deal is five free rentals at HOLLYWOOD VIDEO! Oughta give out some Circuit City gift cards too while they're at it.

This was about a month before the first Best Buys opened in my area (Sacramento). I went there the first day they were open and looked through all the DVDs and got The Gauntlet for the amazingly-low price of $9.99, The Getaway (original 1972 version) for $12.99, and an early contender for worst DVD to date, The Ultimate Space Experience from Madacy for $4.99 (that was my 'buy-anything' price at the time.)

Added! I bought that Fatboy Slim album later in the year after seeing some of his videos that summer. But I apparently missed out on that sampler!

Perhaps you received these titles (they're the ones I got): Stepmom, Lethal Weapon 4, Lost in Space, Six Days Seven Nights, and Stargate (that last one is a guess; I'm pretty sure it's correct, though). I also got 13 free Blockbuster rentals. This was late 1999.

Looking at those prices for the tube TVs and VCRs reminds me of when my dad bought a 5-disc CD changer from Witmark (remember them?) on clearance for $250. He still has it and it still works, hooked up to a receiver with speakers from the stereo that he got as a high school graduation gift in 1969.

Seeing this ad today is awesome. It's making me appreciate the huge amount of money I spent today on $5 Blu-ray's and cheap Box-set's etc. all the more.

That deal on some random episodes of the X-Files on VHS, too? Classic.

Blank VHS tapes were cheaper back then they are today. I saw a 6-pack at Office Depot for $12 last week.

Indeed I did! None of them remain in my collection today. I didn't get any Blockbuster rentals, though.

In a Best Buy catalog?

Besides, it's not like he was buying a DivX player.

Re: Best Buy Deals for the week of April 25, 1999.

I'm diggin' the $400 27" tube television... Makes you wonder what the TV's will be like 10 years from now! Oh, and I definitely bought that X-Files VHS set. Man, did I waste a LOT of money on X-Files! I bought every VHS they released, then bought the individual seasons (which sold for $150 each, but I got 5 of them in the June 2003 Suncoast "every boxset for $16" screw up...) and then again in the complete series set.

Re: Best Buy Deals for the week of April 25, 1999.

This thread gives me an excuse to embarrass myself. I have pretty much every Best Buy ad since 2003.

I plan to throw them away next time I find the boxes, but I always saved them in case I ever "needed" to do any exclusive release research.

So, I asked for the CD page to be posted. It was. Prominently featured is the 16 Biggest Hits compilation of Willie Nelson. The same day, Willie is arrested for possession of six ounces of marijuana. I fear I owe Willie an apology for vexing his Black Friday.

Eleven years later, and the At First Sight DVD is now 14.99 at Bestbuy.com. You save a whopping $5. I'm glad I waited.

I and the other time travelers from 2021 are getting a nostalgic kick out of viewing this thread. All this talk about "blu-ray" and physical storefronts seems like something from a bygone era.

What did you end up buying in 2019?
