This cracks me up. Those who ordered dozens of copies from SD and FW actually created a Facebook page.

Their statement for doing so:

Please join this group in support of Target keeping their promise, and honoring their mistake!!!

Target had mistakingly advertised the Blu Ray edition of Lord Of The Rings trilogy for $7.99 on the two-day Black Friday sale.

Those lucky enough could have gotten the price honored in store, if you didn't get the ring-around by employees.

A lot of us did manage to purchase the trilogy online at that price, and now Target is doing their best in attempting to delay orders, insist on cancellations, and not keeping their promise!

re: (DEAD) Lord of the Rings Trilogy $7.99 @ Target.com

I only ordered 1 copy for myself at around 12:15am Friday morning because I had decided to check DVDTalk just one more time before going to sleep. I'll be raging if hoarders ruin my chances of getting my set shipped.

I couldn't approve the delay either. But I noticed in the fine print that Target can basically delay and delay and delay until they just decide to cancel the order. Too bad. I was hoping they would come through on this.

The one copy I ordered with The Killer BD still says it will ship dec. 1 to dec 6. I hope I'm safe.

edit: I guess they are going to cancel all or most orders as mine just got cancelled and there was never any delays on it.

Dont those A$$clowns realize they are the reason why Target is canceling orders to begin with. If they had just gone ahead and only ordered 1 each then perhaps those ppl who ordered online and didnt try to abuse the offer wouldnt be getting left in the cold now

Got my cancellation notice, I'm done with Target too. With Amazon Prime and no sales tax, Amazon is the best. Bye Target.

I only jump on target.com when they have cheaper prices than Amazon. Nothing changes for me, save for the nasty letter I shot off. I plan to shoot another nasty letter off to corporate too.

Edit: Sent that nasty letter to corporate. Boy are they going to be sore when they read it! [sigh]

Would you be kind enough to quote your complaint letter so I have an idea of what to send to these bastards at Target? Haha

I love the wording in that letter:

"please check back every once in a while"

I just got the letter too... and I canceled my order yesterday!

I would imagine within the next couple of days, it will be back online for sale at full price.

Yep, but they're unable to fulfill our orders. I would much rather them say it was a price error and cancel my order than pretend to honor their error only by snaking out of it. Fuck them if I see another one of these sets in the store. Unable to fulfill due to stock my ass.

Agreed. From reading comments about these situations in the past, what seems to piss people off the most isn't so much the cancellation, but the bullshit reason(s) behind it. If retailers would just be honest and say, "We made a mistake and it doesn't make sense financially for us to honor it; we hope you understand," I think we would have more respect for them. That being said, don't allow the orders to sit open for days, or in some cases weeks, before pulling the cancellation card.

Ah, another believer in the efficiency of acts of futility! I sent it through the online system, so I don't have an exactly quote. But I pointed out the following facts:

1. I shop and spend thousands of dollars a year at Target
2. My faith in their service has been damaged and I am unsure if I will ever be able to trust their ability to handle my online orders again.
3. I was severely disappointed with how they chose to handle the online orders of LOTR trilogy.

Good luck raising hell!

I wonder if they will honor the raincheck WHEN they get them back in stock.......which seems now like they will.

I am sure it will depend on the store manager.

I got the same email. And, after going back to my original order email, it looks like I placed my order for 1 copy Thursday night around 11pm, minutes after I saw the thread posted here. So disappointed. Target can suck it.
