I've been hitting up Swagbucks for some Amazon gift certificates in anticipation of their deals. Not even sure what I'm after, other than the fourth season of Psych. Hoping it's $12.99 (or less), like the previous three seasons have been the last three years. I love not having to actually go anywhere to get in on these sales.

In this case, it's directly from Amazon's website. Nothing leaked; nothing to worry about.

Hopefully Amazon will do it like last year... they listed all of the Lightning deal titles and when they started for the entire week, but they didn't list the prices until the day before for each day. So far I don't see any titles listed. Unless the Walmart, Staples, or Best Deny BF ads turn out to be really good, it looks like it'll be a pretty mediocre BF... which is good for my pocketbook but I like good deals too. Hopefully Amazon and Newegg will save the day (with advertised deals instead of stealth midnight deals like Newegg's Samsung 2 TB HD for $60).

The one thing I don't get about the BF threads getting shut down is that the other weekly ad threads don't get the same treatment. To me it's the same thing. But this isn't my site and I don't make the rules!

and back on topic.. Amazon having an entire week of BF deals! I'm stoked for the surprises!

I think the difference is retailers have specifically gone after online sites that have posted Black Friday ads. Not so much for regular weekly ads (except for Circuit City awhile back).

What is the best way to go about making sure I get in on deals that I'm looking for? Should I add what I'm looking for to my cart prior to BF?

Last years kicked butt, I hope they do it the same way.

That won't work if they do it the same way they did last year, you needed to be ready to pounce the second they went on sale. They would give you plenty of time to see what time you needed to be on the site, but several times last year I woke up at 2 AM so I could get in on a good deal.

Each item has a time limit (usually 3+ hours or so)... however many of the popular deals sell out in under an hour.. So you need to set an alarm and jump on the deals you want.. I had to make several purchases last year using my iPhone since I wasn't at a computer during some of the sales..

Been curtailing purchases on a lot of things assuming they will be far cheaper come BF on Amazon. Hell I practically built my BR collection in 3 weeks alone last year (starting on BF), solely through amazon. Can hardly wait.

Amazon has been a let down this year already compaired to last year. It seemed last year at this time, while at war with Wal-Mart we were getting a lot of blus priced at $13-$16 pre-order on Hangover, Harry Potter, Star Trek and etc. this year everything is hanging around $20 it seems.

Yeah, that's disappointed me too, guess we were spoiled last yr. Hopefully some of the newer releases will still get some lightning deals.

That may have been true for some titles, such as Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but Star Trek did not go below $20 at Amazon last year, so far as I can tell. The best deal was at Target with the $5 off coupon, IIRC.

I can remember some of the sales sold out in under a couple minutes. There were a lot of good Blurays for $9.99. Dark Knight, Transformers 2, Mosters vs Aliens, Spiderman 3 and lots others.

One thing to keep in mind is that there's no guarantee that Amazon will run things the same way this year as last. As for the topic of prices this year vs. last, I think you can attribute it to two things. Firstly, last year was a major push for the Blu-ray format. The other thing is that we've seen a lot of Blu-ray/DVD combo packs, which I suspect most studios and retailers view as an alternative to luring in format converters with lower prices.

Yeah, I thought so too. My movie wishlist (~100 items) is hardly moving, but the games are getting deals left and right. I'd really like to see all the seasons of Home Improvement drop back to $12 or less. I knew I should've bought them that one time. They oughtta go for $10/season at some point. And when the hell is Street Kings BD going to go below $15!? :(

28 Weeks Later has had some good sales on it this year, I think I picked it up for $9.99 at some point.

Kick-Ass is $12.99 on Amazon at the moment, not sure if we are really going to see it drop lower than that. Maybe a dollar or two, but I couldn't pass up the current price hoping it would go lower.

I'll tell you what, last year Target brought in boxes of Blu-rays at our local store and sold them dirt cheap. Of course, I missed it because I was home watching Amazon. Guess where I'm going this year. :)

Did your Target do something special or are you talking about the $8.99-$12.99 DVDs + the $5 off coupon on each? That's how I got a bunch of my BDs (mostly Warner ones I wouldn't have touched otherwise).

What I remember about last year's Amazon sale is that a lot of newer BDs were $10, and some of the really good lightning deals (including some games) were dead within about 10 seconds of going live. If you only had 1 title you wanted at that time, you could make it, but if you had 2 or more popular ones there was no way. If the prices are higher this year, then maybe less people will buy and they won't disappear so fast. I also remember the joys last year of knowing a good deal was coming up while I'm at work and trying to get away from people so I could get back to my computer in time. I couldn't tell them why because they'd tell me what a lowlife POS I am caring more about buying a BD than listening to whoever was blabbing at me at the moment about something I probably didn't care about.

You can probably get Kick-Ass at Best Buy this week for $9+tax if you are a rewards member. Read the Best Buy 30% coupon topic. It's a YMMV, but many people have been having very good luck. I've bought close to 10 Blus at 3 different stores and haven't had a problem once.
