Final and overall haul of Criterion Sale Nov 2010;

8 1/2 ~$21.40
Days of Heaven ~$21.40
House ~$21.40
Paths of Glory ~$21.40
Playtime ~$21.40
Seven Samurai ~$25.35
The Night of the Hunter ~$25.35
The Thin Red Line ~$21.40
~ $179-180 (taxes incl)

My B&N wouldn't accept the coupons, they even had a notice on the door and a notice on the entrance to the music/movies section. Both of them in my area were like this. Criterion is srsbizness at my local B&N's. Reason they gave - "due to the abuse of the Rewards coupons by some shoppers in this store, we will not be accepting coupons for the current Criterion Collection sale." It had the store manager and district manager signed off on it. I found it pretty funny anyways. Still a good deal either way, so I'm not complaining.

I tried to get the BBS Story box set at 50% off but it wasn't to be. They have every right to refuse but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Yea, that's pretty much how it worked. The clerk in the movie dept. looked it up in the system, and it showed only the small pre-order discount. I asked nicely if he could override it, on account of the Criterion sale, and he got on the horn to his manager who OK'd it, and 'splained what keys to hit.

I believe this is a sign of things to come by the next sale with the store coupons. I say enjoy this one while it lasts. I can already see new things B&N is implementing that is going to make it tougher to find and use coupons in the future. I think it is the beginning of a new crack down on what they perceive as coupon abuse.

I hate it when companies run these sales and offer the coupons and then complain when people actually use them. I have bought more from Barnes and Noble in this last sale and over these past few weeks than I have all year and not just movies. These sales bring me in to the store and I pick up some books and other items I may of not picked up otherwise.

Bingo! Don't put the coupons out and then bitch about people actually using them. I wonder how many of these coupons they're getting back on regular dvd purchases from the average six pack? I would guess that they get very few on purchases as most of the clerks that I have bought from during this sale acted as if this was the first time seeing the coupon and allowed me to use it without any problems.

If B & N is even around that long.

Are they not allowing any coupons in your store, or just the $5 off? I got a 15% off coupon this morning...not as good, but it's new, so maybe they'll accept it once?

I'm doing all right so far, my current haul is:

Postwar Kurosawa
First Films of Akira Kurosawa
The War Trilogy
Black Orpheus
Black Narcissus
Red Shoes
Louie Bluie
L'enfance nue
The Hit
Antichrist
Charade
Bigger Than Life
Paths of Glory

I think there are more but I can't remember.

This afternoon I'll pick up Modern Times and Night of the Hunter and perhaps Summer Hours or the Dusan Makavajev Eclipse set, haven't decided.

I wonder which movie is worth $14.07? Vivre SaVie, Red Desert or Last Year At Marienbad???

Liking or loving any of those 3 titles is extremely subjective. Vivre Sa Vie is the most accepted 'classic' of the bunch, but by no means the one you'll necessarily like the most....if you like any of them at all.

After you click the Pick Me Up button for in store pick up, the price change to full price.

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale

I hate to side with B&N but the coupons do say that they may be used once. I would consider multiple uses as abuse. I can't blame them for taking action.

With that, this sale is still great without the coupons. I didn't even bother renewing my membership or using the coupons.

I don't see a question in that statement but I'm going to assume you have one.

You don't pay for an in-store pickup until you pick it up at the store so you pay whatever the store price is. And that can be higher or lower. In the case of Criterions, that's 50% off right now.

No, I bought BBS at 92.xx minus 25%. 4 days later, it was 71.xx online. Tuesday at a BN, I asked if they could price adjust and they cancelled my order and gave it to me at 71 minus 25%, so I got it for $58.xx.

Well, I tried to use 2 $5 coupons on Night of the Hunter and Thin Red Line, but the clerk remembered me from last time, and said I had already used the 11/30 coupon, but he did allow me to use the 1/30/11 coupon and the 15% off coupon. By rights, he could have disallowed both $5 coupons, so in my book, he was cool.

That's why I ordered from the store on day 1 of the sale using the $5 coupon. It was a difference of $2. Well worth knowing that I'd get it. Shipped a few days ago. LA got no love with this title.

Got a call from B&N that TTRL Blu finally came in and they reserved one from me...now I am down to one more Blu to buy, A Christmas Tale, which is impossible to find in any store in Manhattan.

I saw the BD of A Christmas Tale at my local store. Is it a worthy purchase?
