ALso..you can keep your smell and feel to yourself, sumdeus.
Not sold on that logic but I can accept the fact I may be in the minority. Those clear cases are ugly...look too much like PS3 video game cases...now time to go back and smell and feel my digipacks.

Re: Criterion sale at Barnes and Noble, 50-80% all titles in-store and online

Placed second and final on-line order. Still steamed about the lack of coupons this time around.

Stagecoach
Lola Montes
Yojimbo/Sanjuro
Vivre sa vie

One more store trip on Saturday, then my entire Criterion wish-list will be history other than upcoming titles and three double-dips that I'll wait on. Thank God for Netflix, otherwise I'd be drowning in a sea of discs. I'm barely above water as it is...

The clear Criterion cases are fine. I'm not over the moon for them like some people but I certainly don't dislike them. Digipacks on the other hand are awful, especially the ones like Bottle Rocket, very cheap looking.

Why shop online if you're steamed about coupons?

I've shopped in-store, and I'm 19 for 19 on coupons.....and counting.

i concur. but i also wonder why cc made the digis so cheap. im certian cc could have made the digis with a better quality, but im guessing its a eco-friendly thing meh.

Yeah I like Criterion's DVD packaging a lot, but the digipaks on the BDs, while classy-looking, seemed pretty cheap and easy to damage. I really like the plastic cases though.

Re: Criterion sale at Barnes and Noble, 50-80% all titles in-store and online

Received the two orders that I placed last week on Wednesday. Ordered 7/12, shipped 7/14, arrived 7/21. These orders were placed before they yanked the coupons online. All appears to be in good order; nothing crushed or smashed (titles were Che, Gomorrah, and Yojimbo/Sanjuro).

Placed a third order for I Am Curious and Paris, Texas. That shipped on Wednesday and is due to arrive Monday.

That might be it for me this time out. Hoping for a November sale so I can snag Paths of Glory and a couple of others.

Re: Criterion sale at Barnes and Noble, 50-80% all titles in-store and online

I'm not a fan of the digipacks for several reasons:

--not as sturdy as the plastic; corners dent if dropped on floor; cardboard warps if left in the car; sometimes glue holding them together dries and loses adhesiveness, etc.
--almost all experience spine-lean, spine-slant or whatever you want to call it
--depending on how the digipacks fold together, some have a tendancy for the booklet to fall out if you're opening/getting the disc out with one hand
--they are not uniformly sized with other blu-ray cases (that really bugs me)

I'm really happy Criterion has implemented the replacement program; I actually avoided some of the blu-rays last November because they were digipacks.

Re: Criterion sale at Barnes and Noble, 50-80% all titles in-store and online

Good thoughts on the whole digipack vs. clear case question I asked. I will say my one gripe about the digipacks is the slipcase slides off a little too easily and I have ALMOST lost the middle section due to gravity pulling it through unexpectedly. Shelf wear is definitely a concern but digipacks like CC's "The Man Who Fell to Earth" are worth the risk for me because that one is a work of art. Thanks again for the thoughts. I was primariliy wondering if cost or the environment played a factor for CC's decision or if it was mostly customer distaste for digipacks.

IIRC, it was just Criterion's attempt to stand out from the pack with a unique type of packaging. The response from their loyal (and vocal) customer base was negative, thus the change to standard-sized (though clear) keep cases, and the roll-out of the optional replacement program.

What works good for these Criterion digipacks is to slit the top of the shrinkwrap open...then just slide the case right out. This allows the shrinkwrap to stay on the slipcase and protect it, and also keeps the contents from sliding out the bottom. I learned this trick very early on when some of those other Criterion box sets didn't have a bottom to them (Eclipse series is particularly bad about this).

Ordered my last batch. Bought Days of Heaven, Black Narcissus and Everlasting Moments.

I'll have to wait for their next sale. Want to get Last Metro, Last Year At Marienbad, El Norte and Revanche.

Re: Criterion sale at Barnes and Noble, 50-80% all titles in-store and online

I made my first B&N Criterion sale purchase today.

Che
Days of Heaven
The Leopard
M

The cashier informed me that I could only use 1 coupon per membership. After telling him that I had two different coupons, he asked me where I got the second one and I told him that I received both through e-mail. He thought that was odd and I told him I initially thought so too until I saw the expiration dates. He then rang my titles up and the coupons.

I didn't realize until I looked at the receipt that the coupons were taken off the 2 most expensive BDs, making it $18 for Days of Heaven and M and $17.50 for Che and The Leopard.

What was the coupon amount for? Because Days of Heaven is $19.99.

He was only able to use two $5 off coupons(Che and The Leopard). He just got the standard 10% member discount for Days of Heaven.

Brilliant!

I picked up 10 more BD's yesterday. Was able to use $5 off $20 DVD coupon, 15% off one item coupon, 20% off one item coupon and $5 off $50 purchase coupon. Could only use one coupon of each so I tried to maximize by using every coupon available I don't plan on making but one more trip so I picked up all that I could yesterday and ordered a few more for my next and last trip

Too bad there's no listing for the R2 Network disc, or I'd unload that one as well.
