I am new to Blu-Ray and it was $27.99 a few weeks ago. I kept my eye on it and it dropped to $21.99 over the weekend. It seems to be $35 elsewhere (DDD, etc.) so I figured it was a good score for $22.

Has Amazon been shipping the slim, regular case for it?

The case is slightly thicker due to 2 2-disc trays inside. The difference is probably 1/8 to 1/4 inch.

I don't remember how much I paid for this, but however much it was, it was worth it.

Actually, I ordered one ages ago and it shipped in a regular-size, single-width Blu-Ray case. Very nice. All multi-disc sets should be packed that way. At best, this case was about 1mm thicker than those that hold only a single disc. So yes, Amazon's shipping the thin cases, but there's chance you might still get the thicker one.

For those who care, here are my notes on Amazon's Blade Runner 5-disc Blu-Ray pricing:

$19.95 (April 08), $14.95 (June 08), $18.99 (July 09), $21.99 (January 10)

So $21.99 is not a particularly good price. I still have the HD-DVD (actually 2 as I was given a brand new one as a gift and can't sell or trade it at any stores). When the 5 disc BD is well under $10 then I might consider the BD.

You can trade it in at Amazon for $3.25 in Amazon credit.

I ordered mine from Amazon in December and received the slim case. I also had the disc problem that has been reported. I actually received two Workprint discs (5th Disc). Even though the artwork on the disc said Disc 1 it was in fact a duplicate of the 5th disc. Others have reported receiving two Disc #1 and no workprint disc. I called this number 1-800-553-6937 and received my replacement within a week. You don't have to send in your incorrect discs.

Good deal seeing as you get 5 cuts of the film. $4.40 a films on blu is a good deal to me. I might just have to pick this up since I only own the Director's Cut on DVD and I'm not a member of BJs.

No, I'm waiting for the 5 disc version to be so cheap that I can justify upgrading my perfectly functional HD-DVD set to BD. Considering some of the large collector sets I've seen go for under $10 (remember the Big Lots $3 and $6 sales last June? How about I Am Legend BD Ultimate Gift Set for $7.99 from Best Buy?), I'm OK with waiting. If it goes under $10, I'll probably buy the 5 disc set. If it doesn't, I'll live with the HD-DVD set.

Not all the discs are BluRays in this set. Only 3 out of the 5 discs are BluRay.

Disc 1: Final Cut (BluRay)
Disc 2: Bonus Material, Making Of, etc. (DVD)
Disc 3: Theatrical Cut, International Cut, Director's Cut (BluRay)
Disc 4: More Bonus Material (DVD)
Disc 5: Workprint (BluRay)

But that doesn't contradict what dkedvd said. He was referring to the five cuts of the film, all of which are "on blu" in the set.

I've been checking this at Amazon everyday to see if the price goes down any. Today it's displaying that vague big yellow box:
and is only available from marketplace sellers! What the......!?!?!?! What kind of complaint could be serious enough to cause them to pull it from sale? When this happened to the Herzog sets, they returned them to sale and doubled the price!

It'll be back up in a few days. I don't know what the problem is, but it's not unusual for them to temporarily pull items for a few days.

ive seen this a couple of times with issues from the packaging of fragile sets and from issues with the actual shipping packages for fragile sets. i think when a number of customers who bought a given set complain about similar issues, amazon will hold off on orders and figure things out to minimize problems.
