As the title states. I'm sure it won't last long.

From the man himself. Kind of sad. Typical Fox.
Hmm. Apparently my news is not news.
I don't have a lot to say. I'm extremely proud of the people I've worked with: my star, my staff, my cast, my crew. I feel the show is getting better pretty much every week, and I think you'll agree in the coming months. I'm grateful that we got to put it on, and then come back and put it on again.
I'm off to pursue internet ventures/binge drinking. Possibly that relaxation thing I've read so much about. By the time the last episode airs, you'll know what my next project is. But for now there's a lot of work still to be done, and disappointment to bear.
Thank you all for your support, your patience, your excellent adverts. See you again. -j.

Think that'll happen? Neither do I. Maybe a sale where they're bundled together, but I don't see Fox investing in a complete series set.

Fox did cancel it, but they are going to try and give it an ending. It will return on Friday (12/4) with two episodes a week (so I wouldn't say "slowly burning off"). But when the show was canceled, they were only working on episode 11. So the plan is to try and tie everything up with the unproduced episodes. Reviews for the first episode back are saying it's the best episode, yet. And that's saying something as the last episode to air was considered that. It just keeps getting better. It's too bad that once the show gains some traction with the writing and turns into a great show it gets canceled. If it had gotten canceled after the first season, I don't think people would have cared as much. But now that we've been given some quality shows, it really hurts.

Picked this up from the Amazon Canada deal a few months back. Just started watching it and was ready to give up on after a few episodes as I found it aggressively mediocre. However, around episode 5 or 6, it started to show a lot of improvement. Bummed to hear that it's been cancelled.

If Whedon gets into bed with Fox another time after the royal screw jobs Firefly and Dollhouse got, it's HIS fault, not the network's. Unlike Star Trek series, which took 3+ seasons to get their games together, Joss typically has his shows humming like dynamos within 12-16 episodes.
Buffy didn't get awesome until Spike arrived at the top of S2; Angel got good when Doyle was knocked off and Cordy got the visions; Firefly started off all wrong concentrating on the Western crap, not getting great until "Out of Gas" and the episodes after, but Fox sacked it. Now Dollhouse suffered thru a fatal first five "hooker of the week" shows which drove off the casual viewers and it has wobbled around until eps. 3 & 4 of this season. How many eps since Joss got control of his show? Tomorrow's will be numbers 12 & 13 starting with "Man on the Street" and counting "Epitaph One" - right in the window of Whedon shows getting good.
And it's already canned. Figures.
Fox screwed it out of the box by putting it on Fridays and then killing the decent lead-in of Hottie Terminator, replacing it with lame sitcoms. Simultaneously, they've crippled Fringe by moving it from Tues. to the pure death zone of Thurs. @ 9 pm EST which puts it against CSI, The Office, 30 Rock, Supernatural, Grey's Anatomy, and Thursday Night Football. Needless to say, the ratings are tanking. If they had to move Fringe in order to put their own stupid dance show up against Dancing with the Has-Beens, why not lead it into Dollhouse? Der.
As for the deal, my ceiling is ~$20 for seasons on BD, so $28 wasn't gonna make me bite.

I didn't know about the cancellation. Damn sad. I look forward to watching the remaining eps though. I had the pleasure of meeting Joss last year, and have a great picture with him. He's a stand-up guy. I know he'll rebound with something great. I can't wait!

Agree with cuzzin. In the past FOX wasn't good to its shows, but this time around the only ones to blame are the viewers. After mediocre to poor numbers during the First Season FOX still renewed it for a Second Season.

Re: Amazon Gold Box - Dollhouse Season 1 $27.99
No one is watching anything on Friday nights - that's why Whedon fans knew the show was doomed before it started when it was scheduled in the death slot. Moving Hottie Terminator there last season killed that show dead when they could've done better on its original Monday spot. As I mentioned above, Fringe is being murdered by Fox with its move to the single most congested hour of TV possible. Even if you have U-Verse with a four-program DVR, it's impossible to get everything on in that hour as CBS (CSI), NBC (The Office, 30 Rock), WB (Supernatural), and ABC (Grey's Anatomy) are against Fringe on Fox. Even if you don't watch one of those shows (beat it, Meredith!), you're still hosed if you have a vanilla DVR or (gasp!) use a VCR to tape shows.
Dollhouse only got renewed because Joss showed with "Epitaph One" that he could shoot on digital faster and cheaper than the film the rest of S1 was shot on and combined with the fact Fox would reap the DVD revenues (unlike Terminator, which is why it got canned) from the loyal Whedon fanbase who bought Firefly. Unfortunately, Fox persisted in screwing the show with poor lead-ins (a crappy block of sitcoms?) and weak promotion. They didn't really try to make the show a success, but that's the way Fox rolls since they really only have two shows on their schedule: "American Idol" and "Not American Idol". If a "Not AI" show does well, like a House or 24, that's all well and good, but the money is in AI.
It's really too bad because the pair of episodes last Friday were really off the chain. So, River Tam works at a Dollhouse? Two Tophers? Wesley is George W. Bush? (Too heavy-handed there, Joss. We get that you're a Democrat.) That's three killer episodes in a row (going back to the Sierra one before the break) and all I can think is, "And they're canceling this?" It's too bad another network can't pick it up. Heck, why not move it to FX or SciFi? (I refuse to accept the SyFy moniker.)
