Amazon vs. Walmart Pre-order Price War: Up!, Basterds, Hangover and More
Since Walmart and Amazon are in the middle of a media war this holiday season, there's a lot of back and forth in prices of current BDs. When "matched," prices will still vary between .03¢ to .63¢.
Watch your existing pre-orders to make sure Amazon honors their pre-order guarantee.

Glad that I know that Amazon will honor the new price on Up!
At $18 and $20 respectively, I'll bite on HP:THBP and G.I.Joe.
Thanks OP!

I asked this in another thread but got no response... what is Wal-Marts shipping like? Is it free? Are they likely to keep the prices or are they just in response to the sale at BB (and Amazon), and will go back up tonight?

What I don't get is why some catalogs come out at $16-$18 and some come out at around $25.
It's not based on the quality or the special features. It just seems so random.
Heat didn't even really need this sale. It was around $18 from the day it was announced. It's a popular movie, big name actors, all the special features from the previous special edition, and the reviews I've seen have been all very good.
Yet Chasing Amy is $25 and it's gone down couple of bucks.
Love Actually is also a reasonably popular (compared to something really obscure, at least) catalog title and it was around $17 right off the bat.
I want to believe new releases and most, if not all, catalogs will start from $19.99 and lower, but I'm still not sure if these deals aren't just part of an early jump on holiday sales.
I'm sure there will still be those random catalogs at $17 and below without the need of sale (another example would be the Professional), but I wonder if prices will jump back up to where they've been in general starting in January.
Or maybe this is a trend. Mystic River is $17.49, due out in Feb, but I'm not sure if it's that price because of the BB/Amazon matching deal. But if it was about $20, it would remain in my wishlist. At the price, I already pre-ordered it.
12 Monkeys is now finally $19.99 because of the sales, but it's been out a long time. The Craft, which just came out, is $13.99. If 12 Monkeys was that price, it would be on its way to me now. A River Runs Through It is another catalog whose pricing baffled me. Very high to begin with and a long way from being where I need it to be. If it's not something I really, really like, I'm just not able to add that to my already high monthly blu tab unless it gets down around $15 or below.

It's not random...each studio has its pricing scheme, and whatever one studio prices one of its catalog titles, you can expect to see that same sticker price on every other catalog release it puts out. How many retailers decide to discount 'em...that's something else, but the MSRP does play a role in that.

I keep looking hopeing to see them drop Terminator salvation down to the wal mart price. but even if not after factoring in the sales tax the walmart price works out to be the same would be nice to get if for less than 17 with no sales tax though

I am wondering if they are ever going to get around to matching the walmart prices for
T4,HP6 and now Star Wars clone wars and UP. I really hope so and hopefully clone wars will be matched prior to shipping tommorow.

Re: Amazon vs. Walmart Pre-order Price War: Up!, Basterds, Hangover and More
so will these be WM's in-store price as well, or do their online prices differ from in-store?
I'm glad to see WM going cheaper, but since there's no free shipping, it kinda kills it.

Re: Amazon vs. Walmart Pre-order Price War: Up!, Basterds, Hangover and More
I'd like to get the Terminators and Harry Potters on BR, and while $16.86 each seems pretty good for the last of each, I'm a bit hesitant because I'm hoping there will be a complete movie collection pack of each on BR with a better price per movie. Is there any news on BR collections of these movies?
While Harry Potter is finished, there's always the chance for more Terminators, so no matter when you buy a collection it may become incomplete.
Based on past experience, I know what'll happen. Say I buy Terminator Salvation BR for $16.86, then within a year they'll probably have a complete Terminator 1-4 BR set for $40 (considering 2 of the 4 can easily be found for $10 or less), and I'll be bummed out I didn't wait.
I don't know what to do, so I'll probably do nothing and "wait around... see what happens".
