Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I saw Mad Men: The Complete Collection [Blu-ray + Digital HD] at Costco out early. Its stickered $130 so no bargain and actually currently cheaper at Amazon. Hopefully there will be a coupon during the holiday season. Still nice to know they are going to be selling this.

2 Criterion Box sets listed as Costco Exclusives . They put a box around previously released films.

Classic Hitchcock includes The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934), The 39 Steps, The Lady Vanishes, and Foreign Correspondent. $59.99

The Rock Box Set includes A Hard Day's Night, Gimme Shelter, Monterey Pop, and Quadrophenia. $59.99

Terminator Anthology 11/6 in store.

James Bond set in smaller packaging than the 50th Anniversary has a 10/30 release date (today) mentioned above at $99.

On the DVD side:

I Love Lucy Complete Series in new slim and cheaper packaging $49.99. Currently cheaper at Amazon $45.88. Amazon must be matching someone as that is an odd price. I didn't see any mention on the box of the bonus disk from the previous box set with the I Love Lucy movie and other stuff.

Rodgers & Hammerstein Collection - old set from years ago. $29.99
Stephen Sondheim Collection $59
Foyle's War Complete Saga 11/10 available.

Some or all the 11/3 sets maybe in stores already like the Bond set.

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

The Sopranos Complete Series blu ray $89.99. Beats current price at Amazon and Best Buy by $10.

Only $15 a film for the Criterion Box sets. Great if you want/need all the films in the set. Price is without any instant offs that may be offered over the next 2 months.

I should probably return my unopened DVD set then. Probably could buy the BD set and come out ahead.

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I don't remember there ever being any sales on Criterion discs. At $19.99 each for singles, and $59.99 for the 4 packs they already are close to the sale prices that pop up without member only deals like BN.

Wish there was a way to return my unopened complete Sopranos DVD box set. Figures that by the time I get around to watching it's now out on BD for less than I paid for the DVD set.

I'm one of the unlucky people that have very few BN stores close to me that carry movies of any kind, and the one location that does, will never combine the non-member coupons with the 50% sale. I've tried multiple times and decided it's not worth the drive there any more (way out of my way) just to be denied again. I also don't consider $2-$3 bucks enough to go out of my way to a store like BN when I'm already at Costco and they carry the disc. YMMV.

Looks like my Sopranos DVD set was bought at Costco as long ago as 2009 based my database entry. If I got it for 50% off the price on the sticker, it was around $95. How long after the fact have people been able to return unopened sets to Costco?

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Not sure if these are the best prices but Costco had a bunch of Christmas blus for $7.99 each.

Things like Scrooge, Christmas Vacation, Polar Express, and A Christmas Story. Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story were in the old packages. Not sure if there is a difference to the transfers of newer releases. They also had the Home Alone Paint Bucket set which includes all the Home Alone movies including the first one in a new 4K restoration. The other films are the same as previously released. Not sure of the price. Maybe $35. Its currently $40 at Amazon.

Woodinville WA is the location that has refused me multiple times. It's the only location within an semi-acceptable driving distance that even carries movies. To be specific, the same employee has refused me multiple times. Every time I have been in there it's the same guy manning the whole area.

Many folks have a reverse issue with Costco -- the deals can be great, but if you don't have a store nearby it's not a deal for you.
I get that, hence my adding the YMMV. We go there at least once a month for other items so I just hit the movie area as part of the trip.

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

The only NYC B&N that I know of that refuses to accept coupons during the 50% off sale is the 5th Ave. store in midtown. Haven't been refused at any other B&N in Manhattan or the suburbs where I live. Its a shame because the 5th Ave. store has one of the largest selections of media for a B&N and is in a most convenient location. I know the media section is independently owned from the rest of the store. That is the reason why they ask you pay for the media only in the media section. I wonder if the B&N media sections have more than one owner which may explain why some stores refuse the coupons during the 50% off sale.

I never had a problem at Union Square. They also have a large selection. Though I would have to make a special trip down there if I want something as I don't have much occasion to be in the area so I frequent it less often.

If the cashier is willing to try to scan the coupon it will work. Unfortunately at the 5th Ave store apparently they are told not to try.

That would explain a lot. In that same store I mentioned earlier, when I have bought a movie there the same guy makes me buy it at his register within the dept. He has always acted like he owns the place. Maybe he does

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Costco seems to be stocking lots of DC Comics box sets this season. I do
n't remember all the prices but what I saw:

Batman TV series limited edition big box $129.99
First 4 Batman movies - Tim Burton etc. $17.99
Dark Night Trilogy Box set about $45
The Superman Motion Picture Anthology, 1978-2006 about $45
DC Graphic Novel and DCU MFV Uber Collection $79?

Someone please correct me on prices.

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Those DC prices look ripe for a rebate/discount during December sales, at least the more expensive sets.

But the Costco on 99 & I-10 had plenty of copies of Dressed to Kill (which is where I'm moving to incidentally, bought a house in Katy) along with those two boxsets that have been mentioned (Hitchcock/Rock n Roll). A ton of box sets actually at Costco this time...tempted but they'll need to discount them further for me to take a plunge.

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Has anybody in the Chicago suburbs seen the Moonrise Kingdom Criterion at Costco? I know the B&N sale is on, but that's literally the only title I want right now so I'd rather avoid buying online or dealing with the Oak Brook mall location.

thanks
