However, when you live in a semi-rural area and are retired, shopping on a weekday morning can be a breeze.

BTW, I'm spending some time now in Cabo San Lucas, and the Costco here is exactly like the one at home, except with a better wine and tequila selection.

Hope that was the best Deal around.
If I'm not mistaken the 2D version will be $13 on the 12/14-12/20 circular at Target.

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I saw that Caesar head but it had no price on it and no mention of 3D.
If you are releasing a premium set, go ahead and include the 3D version...
Is that too much to ask?
Pretty please?

Back to Costco, still loaded up on the gift box sets (Batman, Breaking Bad) with nary a sale notice anywhere.
They are going to ride their MSRP price for as long as it takes, I guess.

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

This has definitely been the least aggressive Christmas season at Costco for media in memory. They aren't even bringing in the larger box sets for sale as they've done in the past. I don't think Costco is even bothering to carry music products anymore.

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

They have some good inventory, it is just that nothing is on sale, I mean nothing.
Oh look, a couple of bucks off the Twilight Zone DVD box! Oh lucky day!

They used to have something off the week's new releases, like Guardians of the Galaxy, but they haven't budged.
Something tells me they are trying a new method.
Maybe they lost their shorts last year with the Warner box set firesale.

Mine also has zero music anymore, but they added an extra huge table of coffee table books, meh.

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I think my Costco stopped selling music Cd's in 2011/2012. Sam's Club has also sucked on dvd box sets this year, so I guess maybe they have run their course. They do still have music cd's but its mostly country music or nothing I would even be interested in.

My Costco selection is much smaller lately too.

I walked into a SAMs Club for the first time in years today. Selection was better. Membership deal seems cost effective. Might sign up. Anyone have any input on them?

I bought a cheap Sam's Club membership via Groupon or a similar service and I only used it a couple of times. And I didn't renew. I had a Costco membership at the same time and I did renew that one. Costco may not have the media selection of Sam's but they are better in every other meaningful way. I really only needed to see the sloth and ineptitude of the employees of Sam's those 2 times to know that place isn't for me.

I wouldn't join Sam's Club if a large selection of media is what you're looking for in a store. They have a big selection of DVDs and even some music, but it hardly changes over the year. Walmart will often beat out Sam's Club on new release pricing. They do carry far more bargain DVD selections than Costco, especially television on DVD titles.

The differences between Sam's Club and Costco have narrowed over the years, though I've noticed that Sam's Club has a wildly different product assortment from location to location. The primary difference is that Costco almost always carries more expensive niche brands in each category. Sam's Club will carry Hersey's Chocolate, for example, while Costco will carry Godiva.

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

My Costco pulled the classic Costco move.

All those Batman and Breaking Bad sets didn't sell at our high prices?
What do we do?
Discount them?

Heck no.

Pull 'em off the shelf, Harry.

When do you have to ask for it? After you get your bill for renewal or sometime before?

I saw some new (to Costco) Criterions today.

All $19.99 each
La Dolce Vita
It Happened One Night
Tootsie
The Great Beauty
My Darling Clementine

There was one other in the same area/price but I don't recall what it was except it was in a cardboard box as opposed to a BD case.

I am not exactly sure, sorry. You only get the difference back from the executive membership fee that you didn't earn back via rebate.

The Great Beauty was the only one in a cardboard box at my Costco. Bought Tootsie this weekend and watched it. Still an amazing movie -- and not as dated as I might have imagined. Great PQ in the transfer as well.

Thinking about getting La Dolce Vita now...
