re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Two weeks ago, I was browsing the north Austin, TX, warehouse for video games, noticed there were none and asked one of the computer sales guys if they were now seasonal items or what? He responded stating video games don't sell well at that warehouse and that they phased them out with no intention of selling them during the holidays.

Then he extended that comment to include that DVDs and Blu-rays weren't selling well either and that they're being phased out. I went over to the DVDs and Blus and noticed that it did seem smaller than I last remember. My guess is that they'll only end up stocking titles that show up in the Costco coupon books that come out each month.

YMMV

Costco has never been that competitive on media pricing outside of the Christmas shopping season. Their new release pricing is often the most expensive of any major retail chain. They've been shrinking the allocated space year after year.

re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

The DVD/BD selection ebbs and flows at my Costcos, but I haven't seen signs of them phasing them out. Right now IMO there's more variety at good prices than usual. I picked up the remastered Patton the other day for $8; it's $10 at Amazon.

I have noticed that they stopped carrying videogame console bundles a loooooooooong time ago which sucks because they were good deals. I got my first Xbox 360 from Costco because it came with a Play & Charge kit and 2nd gamepad along with a game IIRC.

Has anyone seen hot fuzz or shaun of the dead at any Costco? Wanted to know if they have movie money for the worlds end.

Saw these today for $9.99:

The Bourne Legacy
A Good Day to Die Hard
Argo
The Dark Knight Rises
Life of Pi
Jack Reacher
Skyfall
The Hunger Games
Ted

Most were BD/DVD/DC combo packs.

Looks very much like the list of $10 sale BDs at Target next week. Coincidence? Either the stores watch each other or more likely the studio is providing everyone the same price and Costco is a week faster. Ted is the only 1 I don't have, and I'm afraid it's a $5 title for me.

Your second guess is correct. The studios want to move as much of their dead inventory as possible, before a tidal wave of new releases in the coming months bury those movies.

re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I saw some Digibooks for $11.99

Guys and Dolls
Driving Miss Daisy
The Man Who Would Be King

Also saw Sunset Blvd for $11.99 Not a Digibook.

The Costco tag was blacked out and an orange sticker marked them $11.99.
However they rang up at $16.99 each. A manager was called and did a price adjustment.

Don't know if these were put out early or what happened. Never saw a price adjustment at Costco.

there's a current batch of digibooks all priced at $16.99. Guess the inventory is not moving at that price (Costco and/or Warner is getting greedy with the pricing - $10.99 2 years ago, then $11.99, then $13.99 and now $16.99) perhaps they are getting ready to get rid of these.

That's okay by me. The original packaging was pretty bulky and heavy.
