I heard a tidbit about this on Fox News Chicago....I just caught the tail end but they said something about the TV show Sopranos was getting sued by a group who felt that they give Italian Americans a bad rep...
Anyone know more about this?
Personally I dont think anything will ever become of the law suit, because you would be taking away freedom of speech rights.
Why cant lawsuits like this just stop...I mean, lets say you are a marine biologist and study sharks....Can you sue the makers of Jaws because they give a bad name to sharks.
C'mon its freedom of speech....All these people do are waste tax dollars on something stupid.

The funny thing is I dont even think they are suing for money. All they want is an apology. At least that is what I think I read

i saw this news item on yahoo news...and it sounds absolutely ridiculous!!! And yes its true, they are not seeking money, just an apology.
I guess this might open the doors to others suing the makers of The Godfather series, Goodfellas, Casino, etc......
Come on the Sopranos is entertainment..
Someone is always out there looking for their fifteen minutes of fame.

Its the same thing as people getting upset about WWF or anything else that they dont understand. I say if it upsets you dont watch it. The Sopranos does depict violence(I was higly offended by the guy getting beat with the golf club), and it does revolve around the mafia, but there is more to it than that. Tony is a very complex character. Yes he is a mafia boss, but he is human too, and that is his everyday struggle. He has a family just like all of us, and while his methods may be unorthodox, all he is trying to do is keep his family together the only way he knows how. It deosnt matter if he is Italian or not, the whole point is to show a character or characters and their road to redemption or whatever may come

The whole point they are trying to make is that, the stigmitism that all those with an Italian ethinicity, have some innate feature of turning to crime.
I personally think that is ridiculous. If they want to say that then, every culture has their version of organized crime. You just don't see it as much as you do with the "Mafia" style. It is not a part of american culture as anything else.
That is like saying that everyone who is asian decent knows some form of martial arts, because there were those Kung-FU movies. That is friggin stupid.
Whatever if they want to express their opinion, then fine. Whatever. It is probably some publicity stunt for Soprano's to get that other 25% to watch the show.

Being Italian-American, I find this totally lame. Are they not wasting tax payer money on this Bullsh!t? I wonder if we can sue them for being total morons and wasting our money. Also, they must be pathetic lawyers if this is the best case they have. Personally, I think there should be more important things for them to concern themselves with.
Hellloooooo!!! It's a TV show. It's make believe. Get over yourself.
